• I did search for 'goldtec axle', honest....

    Thanks

  • No worries. In fairness the info is split over lots of threads so it's not the easiest topic to find.

Also, for my Goldtecs, I just tap the axle with a hammer. I did an axle swap 2 weeks ago and it was very easy. You'll be fine.

  • Worked a treat, thanks all.

  • I'm swapping my 135 for a 120.

How do you get the spacers out?

I understand you need to 'tap' the axle to get the bearings out.
Do you also have to 'tap' the spacer out?

Once the first is out, I guess you have to 'tap' it back the other way to get the other side out?

That's the gist of it. Use a rubber mallet. Tap one side and it pushes both the cap/spacer and the bearings out the other side. Simples!

  • How'd you get off those pesky end caps?

I'm giving them a fair bit of force with some soft padded mole grips and no dice!

  • So try and tap out the axle with the end caps still on to try and displace them?

I can't seem to get them to budge!

    Those caps are press-fit.
They should pop out easy, if not spray PlusGas and leave overnight. Then screw a bolt all the way in the axle, and tap with the rubber mallett

  • I've got goltec track hubs built with stans 340 rims for my sscx pompino and the bearings are shot in the rear hub after about 500 miles. .should they be replaced under warranty ? The wheels are about 8 months old ?

  • That sounds unusual. The bearings in my three year old Goldtecs are in fantastic condition and they're commuted on every day (and I don't exactly look after them!).

Contact Goldtec ans see what they say?

  • I'd be interested in the outcome of this.

I've managed 3 years of 44 miles daily, year round commutes on a set of HB7600s with the little dust seal things and they're just about shot.

I was considering Goldtecs as a 'bombproof' replacement.

  • Absolute thread dredge. Anyone know where to get axles for goldtec hubs these days? Or anyone have a 120 one?

I did try ringing BETD earlier but no answer and they don’t have them on their website anymore.

  • I ordered a 130 from them a couple of weeks ago no problem, their web site is a little difficult to find stuff on. I’d have given my 120, but I’m afraid I made a right mess of it remove it, sorry!

Edit, yeah had a good look and can’t find them either, odd. Drop them an email there still working by the look of it, everything was in stock a couple of weeks ago as I was considering buy a replacement 120 axle after my ham fisted job.

  • Ah that's good news, cheers.

Guess they were just busy and couldn't answer the phone today. I'll give them another try some time

  • My Goldtec Pro rear track hub has started to feel a bit rough so I took out the bearings (using instructions above and bashing with a rubber mallet, ta) and then looked up replacements - they are $40 quid each retail! Enduro Ceramic Zero bearings:

Think I will just get regular bearings, seems a bit steep for commuting. Probably done 18k km including winters but this seems quite low km for these bearings? Front is still buttery smooth.

  • Noticed a bit of play in my Goldtec rear track hub this morning. I've ordered some new bearing, but I'm a little apprehensive of the process of the replacement. I've done it twice before but its never been an easy and I've damaged an axel and an new bearing in the past.

Fingers crossed for 3 time lucky.
