There'll be something in the file that identifies whether it's True, Open, etc, so in theory you could open the file up, search for the identifier and then add the correct extension... it may be easier to simply make a note of the needed extension pre-transfer though?
-
• #803
No info in the transferred file, it just says 'unix ex file'.
Some fonts have random ext. which don't work when applied. Like wtf is '.biscaT0748'. There are many variables on the extn annoyingly. -
• #804
Frustrating... I meant have a butchers inside the file (you may get away with a text conversion) to see if there are any initial identifiers?

How did you get into this situation? And more importantly how can I avoid it?
I've just bought three new Macs with SL - haven't transferred any fonts from my Leopard machines, but I'll have to eventually.
Any tips?
TaOh, and I meant to say -
have you tried checking the files in terminal?
(Open terminal, type "file" and a space, and drag one of your Unix Executable file into the window. Hit return. You should see info poss including the original extension) -

Yes I know it came out two days ago BUT I got it last night. Amazing to finally have it legitimately. Anyone else with me?

right me again
got a problem re-installing photoshop
originally had cs3, upgraded to cs4, started running slow.
so i chucked it in the trash (yup didn't use uninstall)
now trying to reload cs3, it keeps saying "already installed"
and i can't re-install it.
h.e.l.p. -

Ha, I did this ages ago. I think the clue is in the 3rd line up there.
Do you have the disks to uninstall?
The checky B'stads have stopped the old days of just trashing stuff to get rid and have gone all microsoft on our asses.
Try and uninstall if you can?Or do a search for all sorts of keyword to make sure the preferences, libraries, caches etc have been binned.
Friday fun for you!
Good luck.

You need one of the Adobe clean-up scripts... run the cs4 and cs3 one (just to be safe?)
-
• #810
went through the adobe clean up scripts, did google, but they keep saying you need the install disks? which still tells me it's already installed, tried removing with the disk but no joy
and haven't got the uninstall package, musta binned that too -

Did anyone play this back in the day? I played mods that used it, and recently got the whole thing now that its open source.
Awesome game, really engaging story line- its by the same people who did the Halo games, and IMO the best FPS i've ever played.

Oh god, yes! Sooo many hours of my life playing those games and messing around with the level editors. I didn't realise it was OSS now...could be dangerous :)

Haha yes. I sank a lot of hours late last year playing it through and then quite a few custom campaigns. One thing is most of them have been updated with high-res textures, so everything looks really nice :)

2) can anyone direct me to a free download of a modern version of mac's mail programme. im trying to set up POP mail from gmail but it only supports mail 3 and 4 and mine is 2 point something old... cant seem to find any joy on the mac site.

Can anyone recommend a good (free) program for extracting rar files?

Im sure this will result in a load of folk posting about how pirated sofftware is a crime blah blah blah but anyway, I want photoshop cs5 and i'v heard that if I download the 30day free trial and then change my 'host files' I will end up with free cs5.
Does anyone here know what a host file is and how I change one on an imac?PS is stealing software really bad?
I'v just done a photography hnd and i'm going into 3rd year of a BA after summer so photography is gonna be my career, am I taking stupid risks by using non legit software? I ave a legit student version of cs3 just now so if there's a compelling enough argument against stealing cs5 then I might listen. -

Changing host files does work, i ran CS2 for about 4 years hassle free.
I can't remember for the life of me how it's done but there'll definitely be guides online.I'm doing a photography BA (going into year 3 also) and often cautious friends say about how images using dodgy photoshop are traceable but i'm not too sure. If photography/editing is your main source of income then it's worth buying if not for the peace of mind, may be an incentive to use student discount as adobe are safe like that. Also updating isn't that much.

See i can use my student discount but I think you have to get the student version.
Which in a years time when I finish my BA, will be as legit as a downloaded version.
Same problem with upgrading, because my cs3 is student I think I can only upgrade it to student cs5. -

Anyone here waiting on the new mac pro?
Bit disappointed with the spec boost, but as i'm using it for audio it's not the biggest problem, stability is.
Fraid not, it doesn't recognise Font Book as a useable application.
I am only assuming you need to add the extn. I could be wrong.
