don't try the central london ones, head out to the sticks, either westfield or some of the zone 2/3 ones, which have just as many appointment's and more chance of getting ones, with less stress...

Alright dibs in order for transparency.
I cant be arsed to put a OS disk in it to take screenshot but can provide with serial number so you guys can check it? Its working.
Friday collection from central please. PM me whoever wants it.

• #7279
@amey, I'm out, got my hands on another one, so will leave @Tenderloin and @Soul to scrap over it..
-
• #7280
Can't do Friday i'm afraid... driving up to Sunderland (whoop).
@Tenderloin it's yours if you want it.
-
• #7281
I can do later dates .. some day next week; just that I have been asked to clear it out asap.
-
• #7282
Earliest i can probably do is next Wednesday... and i'd still like to check what model number it is etc.
@Tenderloin, if you can collection before next week, it's all yours.
-
• #7283
That can work unless @Tenderloin grabs it first; now it comes with an 128GB SSD.
Its a Xeon with 12mb L2 cache

@amey Just to be annoying I think it would be worth your while firing it up and getting a screenshot or at least knowing that the thing is functional - otherwise it's a very heavy paperweight. Even without turning it on you can find out the model, year of manufacture and then you can pop the side off and have a look at the Motherboard and see how much ram is in there.
Good machine though - still very useful.

It is functional (i.e. working) has been fired up and worked on till yesterday; serial number is CK8101EFXYL

Chris, tina, Jon
I read everything I could about this, and then did what everyone said I shouldn't - I upgraded everything - Firefox, ITunes, OS - if it said "do you want to upgrade?" I said YES.
Suprisingly it now all fits together really well and all probs have disappeared. Seriously. However, I was quite drunk when I did it, and am prepared to accept that I was very lucky. I'm in no position to recommend this as a thought-out suggestion.

What ssd would people recommend looks like I'll be getting a 512gb one thinking the crucial m500 or 550 or the Samsung evo 840 or 850 which can be had on Amazon for approx £160ish. Any others I should be looking at?
-
• #7288
Crucial isn't great unless you start paying silly money, the Samsung ones are pretty good. Also the Sandisk extreme 2 (I think it's 2) is also very good and only marginally more expensive...

Would of bit yer hand off for this if I was in the UK ATM, God damn it.

Thinking of buying a new Macbook pro to replace my 2010.
Should I go the extra mileage and get a 15"instead of a 13" retina or just hold off till summer when the new ones come out? Heard there was gonna be a new processor in em.
-
• #7291
Unless you really need the extra power, I'd get the 13inch and use the difference in cost to get a 2nd screen. As for holding on till the new models, that really depends if you just want a new Mac at this moment in time, or do you need one?
-
• #7292
I feel at this stage the difference between 13 and 15 is really just screen size (except for the top model with additional gpu). The repeated rumours of a new air must mean one is coming out soon, might be worth hanging in there until then? But then again there are rumours of new models most months.
-
• #7293
I'd vote 13 as well. The 15" screen isn't big enough for proper work anyway, so you'll need a second monitor. Unless you -need- the extra gpu of course.

Cheers for that, was getting tempted but that one is a few generations too old. Would make an amazing media centre though - loaded with cheap drives.
-
• #7295
What year does that make it? 5.1 generation surely?

Exactly what I'd do if I had space ..

It'll still make a great work station with some extra ram and an SSD! ️Xeons are still solid.
Ahhh 2008. Yep too old for me too. Sorry I thought it was 2010.

Any recommendations for a wireless game controller for a mac?
Yep, also been trying every day for a week as my charger doesnt work properly... kinda annoying
