Bollocks. If that new IPhone 4G really looks like the lost prototype then I'm out.
Looks too generic, like some kind of Samsung or other Nokia.
Front facing camera?! Who the fuck needs that apart from 11 years olds and perverts?! -

Cheers, Ivan! Would be great if you could have a look at my wheel. Happy to pop to Hither Green if that's easier. Many thanks for the loan of the headset press.
Mad excited about getting my first Mac!

Happy to help geezer.
It's easiest if you drop it off at Goldsmiths as I'm reliably there Tuesday through Friday.
Sounds like I'll know pretty quick if it's fixable or needs rimming;-pThink you're gonna love the Big Mac:-)

I'm going to get a lovely Mac soon. Should I go with Office for Mac or iWork? What is this Bootcamp thing? Do I need antivirus software?
You can laugh at me now.
-
• #686
With bootcamp you can run Windows on your mac (instead of OS X).
You should be ok without AV software, turn your firewall on (in system preferences).
-
• #687
I thought the whole point of getting a Mac was to sneer at Windows? I understood that OS X is safer due to no one writing illnesses for it.
-

Office for Mac is actually very good, I have had the old and new versions and they're both the best Microsoft product I've ever used. iWork will 'get you by' but really, you'll be wanting Office.
Bootcamp allows you to run Windows on your Mac on a separate partition of your hard drive, you choose which OS you want to work in on powerup. I used the Beta and it worked very well, but I think there are better alternatives around now.
As for AntiVirus I've been a mac user for a decade and never ran any. Never had a virus or worm. This said, with apples current popularity rise it probably won't be long before you'll want some peace of mind.
Of course for other security reasons you should keep your firewall up, it is turned on by default but if you wanna check it's in system preferences > security > firewall.

there's still virus' for Mac, it's just a waste of a havkers time for only 8% of the computers in the world.
I would recommend using open office, it's free, and works perfectly. It's also really simple to get that up and running with existing word doc, and creating .doc files.

you get a 30 trial for windows office, if you want to give it a bash anyway
The other point is that the next version of Office will be cloud based, and it's not that far away. It'd be a waste of £120 if you bought office now seeing as the next version is essentially free!

Open Office > iWork, truesay.
-
• #692
I've never bothered with iwork... is it like the garage band of word processing?
-
• #693
Well, it's bundled software, yeah. But I'd say Garage Band is streets ahead of where iWork is in their respective sectors. iWork is often referred to among my peers as "Fisherprice Office", as it seems useful for children and technophobes, but is so painfully limiting.
-
• #694
It should be noted I haven't bothered with iWork for a few years either, and looking at the splash page on the microsite it looks like its come on leaps and bounds, maybe i'll give it a go sometime.
Oh, if you're writing a book, novel, thesis, may I recommend Scrivener which is bloody brilliant for big writing projects.

I formated my 8gb usb stick to make a bootable USB drive to install snow lepoard on a computer that had a busted dvd drive. Now i've gone to reformat it to use on my tv to play movies but It won't regonize it. I've formated it to fat32 again but it's saying unsupported. What am I missing?
google isn't helping on this. -

OS X won't recognised FAT32 I think.
-
• #697
Running my Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with two 15' Dell monitors, its amazing! How did I live without two monitors before!?
-
• #698
15inch do they still make monitors that small?

OS X won't recognised FAT32 I think.
it does NFTS is the one it doesn't support or didn't, I forgot to change guid to master boot so I'm sorted now.

Pretty much every OS can recognise FAT, NTFS is the problem.
