..just had a chat with apple support, to make it short he told me he 'feels my frustration' but can do fuck all.
He told me that apple is "convinced that new features work best if everybody is using the latest iOS".What is the problem you have exactly and I will try to help?

I really can't decide whether to get a MBP or an iMac.
I figure portability would be nice but then my laptop now has basically never left the house.
The cheapest Retina display 15" is 1528 which would get me the second spec 27" imac which looks lovely.
Any photography people care to chime in? Can't imagine how editing feels on screens that small really.
Would upgrading memory and such be a nightmare on the new model laptops/imacs? £140 for an extra 8gb is steep.
Uni discount on these ^

The lock screen button on my iPhone 4S has stopped working- anyone else on here had this issue and fixed it themselves? If so, how difficult was the operation, and what did you need?
i broke my power button when i dropped my iphone last week. it's a right fucking pain.
as an (annoying) workaround you can turn on something called assistive touch which is a mode for people who i guess lack the motor control to use the physical buttons.
go to general -> accessibility -> triple click and set it to Assistive Touch
when you press the home screen three times in succession a white dot will appear at the top left of the screen. click that and a menu pops up
click device and there's an option to lock screen. if you press and hold it will even allow you to power off (you'll have to plug the phone into a charger to switch it back on though).
to get rid of the white dot you triple click home again
basically it'll give you back the power button functionality but it isn't a true fix.
what model is it btw?
might help in the short-term.

Big monitor is a huge difference in Lightroom. Dunno if retina fixes it?

Get the iMac... the new ones are dead good. PCIe based flash storage too! I actually think laptops are going to become less and less popular... proper machine at home with massive screen then tablet for on the move things...

I've found cs to be a little iffy on retina. workable, but omgztehpixelz.

It is really easy to get used to having the 27" screen, I think with the retina macbooks you can't upgrade the ram at all, it's 8GB or nothing. The iMac you should upgrade yourself (if it's a 27") as it is cheaper than paying apple's prices. The 21" ones aren't user upgradable though.
@ dooks, sure, i can send through photos, where i'm based etc.

It's amazing how even a 27" screen starts to feel normal sized, maybe even a tad small, after a while... Big monitor FTW...

^this.

+1. Bloody love my 27"
Not so good for testing/designing websites though. Hard to keep a realistic handle on what a 'normal' sized screen is when you're using one almost twice the size...
-
• #4912
Yeah I'm considering going bigger only have 23" at the moment.

Very much this but yeah +1 to big monitors and if you are going to earn money from it Apple or GTFO.

Apple? Meh. Just a means to an end. If there was a viable alternative I would plump for that over Apple.
-
• #4915
I went through a lot of non apple monitors from cheap taiwanese to dell ultrasharp, nothing produces colour like apple but again whatever I am making is viewed on non-apple devices mostly ;)

Lacie or GTFO.

I have a 27 at work and a 24 at home, my desk at home is smaller so any more than 24 would actually be useless... worth taking into account how deep your desk is.
A chap I worked with bought a 30 and a 23 and gave himself neck ache because he had too screen real estate....

Lacie or GTFO.
yeah the colour argument is more valid for print above that its just how much you are willing to pay extra for 'nice' stuff
-
• #4919
Colour management is bullshit in less you are printing super high end bespoke printed material. It's like SEO stuff, smoke and mirrors.

Thanks for the affirmations.

disagree - like SEO, it is important up to a point. After which you are chasing the dragon.

What is the problem you have exactly and I will try to help?
I have an iPhone 4 I want to downgrade from iOS 7 back to iOS 6, for various reasons;
I dislike the look and usability of iOS 7 for the most part,
it's slow / laggy on my device even after restoring from backup,
and I can't use it on a work computer (G5 PPC) no more, as that does not run iTunes 11.Apple support chat says, in short, it is technically not possible to downgrade -
"sometimes I wish I could perform magic, but I can't, try restoring your device". -

orly?
-
• #4924
My mistake, was just looking at the 13" ones. I think it's not user upgradable though, so you have to make the decision when you buy though.
It's expensive, but I'd want to give myself some future-proofing.

So you can upgrade the retinas, I thought all the new Macbooks had the ram soldered to the logic board. Apples way of saying fuck you!
Button on the top- power button.
