Depends how old the Mac is - no point upgrading, because of the Flash support or its lack.

I think I have something newer. Not sure which. Both retail and OEM discs (gave one OEM to Object).

Not necessarily... I have a Quad Core i7, 16Gb of ram and a 256Gb SSD and it still grinds occasionally.

It's more to do with the bandwidth on your internet connection as you're downloading lots of heavy "picture" files.
