  • Why do you need it? Surely smartphones have replaced remotes.

  • Anyone changed the glass infront of the lcd screen on a macbook pro? A ghost has somehow cracked it....

  • ^ta, by which point I won't be able to abuse whoever for their edu discount as they'll have graduated. balls. will wait it out though.

Get them to log into the edu page and bookmark it. It's worked or me for 3 years and counting. cough

  • Or befriend someone that works for John Lewis/Waitrose. 15% off and you get the two year guarantee.

  • Anyone got a working wireless mouse they want to part with?

  • i have a spare, almost new, in a box - make me an offer

  • Ok, so my MBA which is the best bit of kit I have ever owned is full. I have bought a 1/2TB ext HDD which I have loaded up with all my photos and music and video and TV shows and work (of course) off my iMac and my PC so I can have everything together. All good so far.

I have copied over the iTunes media folder from the MBA and all the music and vids are now in a file called Music, Video and TV Shows on the ext HDD and removed from the MBA. I have changed the preferences of iTunes of the iTunes Media Folder Location, but still when I go on iTunes, it can't find the files. If I click on the name of the song and it says it can't find it, but then you can browse and find it, it works. Then it asks if you'd like to use this location for all the iTunes files, you say yes and it says it can't find them !!!!

    Grrrrrr.

Any clues oh clever people of LFGSS ???

    Help !!

  • The way I did it was to ...

    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Move the entire iTunes folder (standard location is in ~/Music/) to the new drive.
    3. Start iTunes - it should error message that it can't find a library and ask if it should locate one or create one.
    4. Press locate and show it the new iTunes folder and specifically the .itl file inside.

This way if the drive is disconnected, iTunes will error when it starts and say it can't find the drive, not resort to a local one again.

  • Is there a way to set a shortcut in preview? I use the rotate, zoom to fit options all the time with photos, the first has a keyboard shortcut, the latter doesn't. Cheers!

  • Ok, my old MBP has died... not sure if I can recover owt from it...

    1. Is there anyone on here who would be prepared to take the disc drive out for me so I can restore from it at a later date. Can pay money/beer.

    2. Anyone selling a cheap laptop, only really need it to keep my gf off my real Mac (cluttering it up with Sex and the City DVD's and such shit). 13inch MBP? Air? Quite fancy an Air to be honest...

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • You should be able to find a video showing how to remove or replace the drive on your model of MBP. If you need special screwdrivers or bits I may have the right ones you can borrow.

  • Cheers, going to see if I can get it working at all this eve, then will decide on tearing it apart/buying a new one...

  • Also there is a way to plug the broken one into the good one then hold down T (I think) when you boot it and then you have your old HD as a drive on your working Mac then maybe you can do a time machine backup of it.

    Ask google though....

  • Thanks for that!

Target disk mode... sounds like it could be a saviour.

  • Should target mode fail, ifixit.com is the place for guides for dismantling macs.

If you need them I've got tools too, even an official Apple spudger. Oh yes.

  • Amazing! Thanks...

Now all I need is a new laptop...

  • At least once a day, when I try and look at my emails on my iphone, it tells me that the password is incorrect and it can't log on.
The only way to get my mail is to delete all the mails, delete the mail account, restart the phone, reset the mail account (with the same password), then check for mail.
How can I stop it doing this? Its really starting to boil my piss, and eventually I'll lose my rag and smash the phone to bits.
It's an iphone 4s, only about a month old, exchanged when the old one accidentally went swimming. I've been a fan of apple for ages, but I'm starting to think its not worth the trouble.

  • use a different mail app until there's an os update? sounds like theres a bug or something.

  • That does seem odd. As Hatbeard says download another mail app. I never really liked the apple mail app anyway. The gmail one is great (if you use gmail).

  • Frustrated nearly to the point of tears with itunes/spotify app this morning. Must be on my 20th apple ID password in the year. Have had to re-set it at least three times this week alone. And this is a long time since I first ran out of patience with it and briefly had it set as Fuckyouitunes1.

Today's specific piece of fuckery is my spotify app on an iphone 4. It opens, says "connecting" (with all playlists greyed out) then closes after about 5 seconds. My account is fine, paid up premium, running fine on the mac and every other app (including itunes itself) is running fine on the iphone. Tried deleting it and reinstalling app but despite three re-sets my phone insists that my apple ID password is incorrect. Have logged out and back into apple account on phone, which recognises the new password but when trying to download app it insists the password is incorrect.

Any thoughts? I'm assuming it's some cookie/setting type thing in the phone remembering an old password in the app store despite it having been reset elsewhere.

Need to get that sorted before I can address the spotify issue.

  • Haha. Thanks man. Was thinking of throwing it at a wall then screaming to the heavens while jumping up and down on it till it's smashed to atoms.
