Pixel has more processing power than the air doesn't it?
Probably. But not for heavy photo editing. Plus I'm not sure it even runs photoshop.

iPad mini. any good?
Love mine. Great for reading, weighs very little so more comfortable to use than a regular sized one. Screen is great, though retina would be good. Charges quickly and holds battery for at least a day.

So my bastard iMac has gone and done this:
It seems to have lost the system boot files and won't start up at all, just stays on a white screen with this icon flashing. The internet has told me that to fix it I need the grey restore DVD for this specific model of iMac (2008 24 inch, OS X Leopard 10.5). Obviously being an idiot I don't have it, it's either in my mums house in Swansea or disappeared into the ether after two house moves...I was wondering if anyone on here happens to have this same model and hasn't misplaced their disk? As it's a restore disk not an OS install disk it has to be exactly the same model, otherwise it won't work/will wipe all my files, which I'm trying to avoid at the moment.
I will reward you with many beers/chocolate/bike cleans if you can help me out!

Failing that does anyone have DiskWarrior? It seems to be the next best thing.

Think you should be able to boot it from a cd/dvd, and save files etc to an external hdd, then re-install the whole system
That way I think you can use any disc, and not a super specific one

That sounds promising, although presumably I'd need an OS install disk to re-install the system? I don't have that but just being able to lift my files onto an external hard drive is good enough for me for now. My computer is at college so I can't try it now but will tomorrow. Thank you!

I installed a new HDD on Claira's MacBook last night. It is also showing this screen. However when I boot up with my 10.6 DVD, it thinks about it, then spits it out. Tried turning it on holding down C (and loads of other different combos), but nothing. Doesn't like the disk. Disk is fine, used it the other day to install. Any ideas?

It's a testimony to how well Macs are made that may 6 year old MacBook is able to run the latest Lion OS flawlessly. I don't buy in to all this iPad, iPhone crap but Mac Books are one of the greatest things of all time. Especially the old black ones. They look so cool

Old black MacBook is the one giving me trouble :-(

Scoot, have a SL fresh install disk if you want to borrow. Should work fine.

I have a retail sl disc if needed (as well as photoben).

dropped phone in toilet.
Unable to turn off as power button is fucked. Sat in box of rice drying out, screen is black, but still seems to respond to gestures.
Not sure this one is going to make it back. Not insured, and out of contract. Whats the least expensive way to get back up and smartphone running?

corny i broke my power button when i dropped my iphone last week. it's a right fucking pain.
as an (annoying) workaround you can turn on something called assistive touch which is a mode for people who i guess lack the motor control to use the physical buttons.
go to general -> accessibility -> triple click and set it to Assistive Touch
when you press the home screen three times in succession a white dot will appear at the top left of the screen. click that and a menu pops up
click device and there's an option to lock screen. if you press and hold it will even allow you to power off (you'll have to plug the phone into a charger to switch it back on though).
to get rid of the white dot you triple click home again
basically it'll give you back the power button functionality but it isn't a true fix.
what model is it btw?

iphone 4,
I've used the assistive touch workaround, but thats no use when the screen isn't working.
Do apple still do that £125 replacement thing when you bring them a busted phone and they can't fix it? If so, does it cover phones you've dropped down the toilet?

They did it for me when i dropped mine in a pint at a Fucktones gig last year. Was insanely grateful.

Dooks was yours out of warranty?

It was.

I will probably pop down then, as I feel spectacularly naked without it...
-
• #4098
Your nakedness is always spectacular.
If they can't/won't do you the deal let me know as I'm well out of contract and can upgrade to an iphone 5 for £100 ish. Sure we could come to some arrangement for you to take my 4 off me. It's only a year old owing the to previous one's ale-dunking so it's in good nick.
I owe you a favour I'm sure.
