  • Funnily enough have had to do the same myself very recently - phoned Apple today.

Call 0800 048 0480 and you can order a Snow Leopard disc that will then allow you to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

The disc costs about 21 quid for a family disc. The guy I spoke to said the individual discs are 18 quid but there is a 4-5 week wait on them whereas the family one will be posted out on Friday. You can then re-update to Mountain Lion for free.

To be honest, if you can get to Camden in working hours or SE22 on an evening, for a beer you can have one of my 'family' installs when I get the disc - i imagine it will arrive around Wed next week.

This is absolutely ace! I can nip around this evening to SE22. Will bring beers - you have a pm

  • On another note my wifes macbook - the old plastic white one has keyboard trouble. The O is on permanent caps and the ) key doesn't work at all. Is the keyboard screwed or can it be cleaned? It has been rountinely used (abused) by our 3yo daughter since she was born so could well be screwed.

  • I've pushed her down to 340. I reckon that's a good price :)

One of my fellow inmates wants to sell me her two month old white 32GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi+3G and 3 years' warranty for £400.

Her dad is buying her the latest one.

Not sure whether to trying knocking it down. Could really do with one here and for work when I get out, but I am not exactly raking it in right now.

    Hmmm...

Thanks TS, that's about the figure I was going to suggest. I actually thought £325-350 - (in)mates rates innit.

    Did it have 3G?

  • They're £379 refurbished from the apple store so not bad I guess...

    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/FC983B/A/refurbished-ipad-2-with-wi-fi3g-32gb-white-2nd-generation

    that's assuming hers is mint.

  • wow. haggle down to 300 then. 320 tops.

  • Mountain Lion has done away with the footer in folders that displays the content details. Any way to get it back?

  • ^this is definitely one of my greatest annoyances with mountain lion, did some searching to find a way but found nothing.

  • You mean the thing that pressing cmd + / gets back?

  • Is the 0% finance available on refurbed stuff? Considering a new mac mini

  • You mean the thing that pressing cmd + / gets back?

Frickin sweet. I knew it would be hidden. Random short cut.
    Rep'd.

  • Yeah, it's the same shortcut as the ugly status bar in safari. Took me forever to find the right words to google to get an answer.

  • ah, no I wanted the folder tree as well.

  • You mean the thing that pressing View -> Show Path Bar gets back?

  • If that's it then no kudos, I had NO idea you could get it back.

  • fucks sake! Moved from where the setting was in snow leopard. Thats been slowing me down for ages.

  • also repped for saving me a load of time trying to get to the right folder!

  • wow. haggle down to 300 then. 320 tops.

She's not budging. Considering her Dad paid £500 for it just three months ago, I am pleased with £340. Not a blemish on it.

  • Any Mac Ableton users on here? I'm interested in moving my Ableton (samples/projects etc) library to an external drive and maybe fitting an SSD for the OS, but struggling to find good info on achieving best results

  • Sorry for the dunce question but what discernible difference will I notice between the following two setups. So far as I'm aware the only difference is that the former has a 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and the latter has a 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7processor.

2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    256GB Solid State Drive
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (British) & User's Guide (English)

2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    256GB Solid State Drive
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (British) & User's Guide (English)

I've been told to basically get the best up to a limit of about £2,000 and with the min specs of i7 processor, 6GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

I'll mostly be using it for GIS (mainly ArcGIS) and some reasonably intensive spatial statistical analyses for my PhD. This means that Most of the time I'd run it Windows in parallel but switch to bootcamp if things got too clunky.

    TLDR: What difference will I notice between a a 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and a 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7processor?

  • none whatsoever, if its cheaper go for 2.0ghz, paying for Ghz is so 2000 ;)
Since this is non retina, dont even buy the SSD from apple, get a cheaper (possibly better and faster) one somewhere, same with the ram go with 4GB if you can and if its cheap and then go with a third party upgrade to 16GB

  • You mean the thing that pressing cmd + / gets back?

You mean the thing that pressing View -> Show Path Bar gets back?

    yesh !!!

  • Sorry guys, quick question, how much is to change the iphone4s screen?
Taking it somewhere, not doing it home. please.
    Thanks.

  • I've seen some prices online, just need to know if there's somewhere cheap/reliable/same day... sorta thing...?
    Fankx

  • Got an iPad mini today- 16 gig 3G version.

I can report that it makes a good eReader.

  • ^ agree for reading up to an hr or so, find eye strain to be the same as on laptops
