  • I spilt tea on my MacBook this morning. It's gone funny - keys not working, so ive turned it off and put it on its side. Any helpful tips?

  • Where's good, I mean free, for streaming tv these days?

This is what I use: http://www.tvcatchup.com/

  • Ta. Not in the uk though so no good.

  • Oh, yeah well that site is about as much use as a chocolate teapot then.. sorry!

Turns out you should never turn it on its side! Anyway, took it to this place in hackney: http://www.luvapple.co.uk/
85 for a new keyboard. Seems pretty reasonable, can't find the pound sign on the new keyboard though and certain keys seem to have moved... An expensive cup of tea

A friend uses http://www.justfreevpn.com/ on windows, when we we're in Stockholm, and it is really easy.

Edit: as a way to spoof a UK connection, not as such for viewing

    How legal is that?

  • Totally legal, as far as I know. There's an app for it too (that makes things legit, right?).

  • Yeah I think you're just supposed to have a TV licence like when you're watching iPlayer.

  • You don't need a tv-license to watch TV after it's been broadcasted, ie catchup. If you're watching 'live' tv, you do.

So, if I'm watching stuff that's been broadcasted before, it should be all good?

  • there's a delay on it of about 5 minutes I think so it's not technically live tv

  • Sounds like it'll make for an interesting legal case then :)

The license man has threatened with visits for quite a while now as we haven't had a license for years, would be good if he could actually come have a look so we don't have to bin a threatening letter every 3 months

  • I haven't have a tv for years, also had hassle from license man. When he knocked one I let him in to see my TV, which was only plugged into my playstation, and explained I only watch DVDs & play games. He seemed totally happy with this, and I never heard from him again.

  • Trying to convince mrs. spenceey we don't need a tv licence in our new house.

  • If she watch X-Factor, you're doomed.

  • She doesn't.

Neither of us watch much tv and the stuff we do watch is mostly on iPlayer/ 4od. If I use my parents sky account to watch it through the xbox is that still OK?

  • what is the best way to use a laptop battery? charge, then unplug? leave plugged in but do a full uncharge-charge cycle once a month?

want this thing to last as long as poss..

  • Ha, I'm coming here for the same reason.
More of an auzzie map company fail, apple failing to notice one of the plots for a town of 30,000 amongst millions not being in the right place is really not their fault is it?

"Designed by Apple from the ground up" (Apple Maps rely mostly on TomTom)

... and that's the population equivalent of leaving Cambridge off the UK maps.

  • Repost... Epic fail thread...

This isn't the Epic Fail thread?

  • Google will not as it would take Android sales.
It was google refusing to release vector maps for iOS that started this bullshit.
Bit stupid as the only company that actually make money from Android is Microsoft, but there you go.

    Whoops.

The OS is open source so of course they don't make money from that directly. The devices make money for handset manufacturers and some licensing stuff for MS and probably others. Data collection from users makes money for Google. Ads make money for Google.

  • I get the feeling the more Apple miniaturises it's products the shorter the life expectancy due to finer tolerances etc.

Heat would certainly play a part in this. Less airflow in smaller cases.

Is it as bad or worse than this:

  • Help!

So I was happily listening to music on my Macbook Pro yesterday when it died. Blank screen, won't turn on. The battery indicator says lots of happy green lights. I've tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC to no avail.

Now, it was raining a lot yesterday and when I looked at the computer, there were a few drips of water on the keyboard - but not like a spillage or anything and I'm not convinced it's water related.

Any clues people? I'm a bit desperate!

  • how old is it?

    also...
