My late 2011 MBP has twice in the past two nights suddenly frozen - nothing more intensive than Chrome and iTunes running. I have an external monitor via mini display port adaptor, and this shows a zig zag jumbled up login screen. I've had to disconnect everything and wait for ages - it's very very hot. Pressing the power button takes me to a plain blue screen, then it goes off again. Repeated this like 10 or 15 times over the space of an hour before finally getting chime and logo, then log in screen
I've taken a full backup - any suggestions? I know that these are known to get hot. Is it shutting down because of it?

Late 2011? Should still be covered by Applecare.
You could also pop the case off and have a look for dust or any fans that might have stopped working.

I've made a genius appointment for Friday - I've tried to find crash/error logs but no joy?
FWIW I've had it on one of those twelve south bookarc stands under my desk - wonder if it's got dust sucked up from floor/carpet?

Spilled water (oh nooos) on my My Macbook Pro months ago and the keyboard was messed up. Finally got around to fixing it by replacing the keyboard and it seems to think the shift key is depressed all the time. It's only letting me type in shift variations. D'oh. I want to sob. My precious might be SOL.

What does that mean? You have to press caps on caps off?
My missus does that by default. She doesn't understand shift, even after 11 years of attempted education.

Airplay and Airport. Is anyone on here using it?
And how about all the little third party apps such as Airstream, Airfoil, Porthole and Airphones?
And how about Wi-Fi streaming to a TV or projector? What works best?Keen to hear what setups people have.

I use Airplay with my B&W Zeppelin and it works seemlessly. There doesn't seem to be any loss in sound quality I found using bluetooth. Regarding streaming I use Apple TV which again works fine. Though it doesn't output full HD which may be a issue for some.

Which application do you stream to your Apple TV from? The way I understand it you are limited when it comes to streaming content such as .avi files?

So if I decide to pop an SSD in my macbook (2009 white) what would I need to do? Clean install of everything or clone the drive?
I've got a shed load of music on there I wouldn't really like to loose but I guess I could copy that to another computer?
-
• #3397
you could buy an external enclosure to keep your current drive (with music on) freeing up your new fast SSD for other cool shit. ?
-
• #3398
yeah if you put your music on a faster drive it will all sound like chipmunks anyways.
