Have you taken it in to an Apple store? Nvidia foots the bill for the repairs so I think they're quite generous with them. Me and my girlfriend had ours sorted a while ago, prob a year or so

I took it to the Mac store and I have apparently missed the boat on Nvidia footing the bill! apparently after 4 years you're on your own.

Have you tried ifixit? They often have parts like the logic board available and pictorial guides on how to replace it.
Having said that, it probably isn't financially viable to do that as the laptop will be scrap before long anyway...
The price on fixit wasn't that different to the Mac store price!

What a shame! Thinking about it I think the genius fella said we were a month or so from missing out. Good for us, shit for you :(

It's so shit. I hate the idea that the life span of a top whack computer is tagged at 4 years! I have just been trawling Mac forums and all the Mac heads have to say is 'How did you not hear about it years ago, you could have had it replaced when they announced the news'........

Sure, but I assume they didn't replace what wasn't broken so that's a bit of a non argument

Just on the off chance, anyone got a Powerbook G3 charger kicking around that they have no need for and would send my way? I'll paypal you the postage and a few quid for a pint too.
Also anyone know if a Powerbook 520C needs two batteries fitted to run? I have one with one battery and one cover and it runs on the mains but dies as soon as I pull the plug. Anyone got one of these kicking about too???

Don't need to add more ram, upgraded to 16gig. It's stupid fast. Like insta-launch everything.
Couldn't be happier.

Loose connection for the antenna? Maybe pop it open and have a rummage around inside.
Or: you might just have a shitey phone network.

The upgrade thing has really put me off the Retina Macbook as you need to get everything upgraded at once which was $$$.
£3500 for a fully loaded one was more than I wanted to spend!Although I've heard they are crazy fast, this still makes me want one!
-
• #3324
Put off now by the fact you can't upgrade it. £3500 is mad.

Yeah you can't upgrade anything yourself. Which is why you need to fully load it from the get go. Even with student discount its about £3000 ish.
