  • Can't do that, I don't think. The account the computer was originally set up with can't be deleted. Wipe the new MBP clean and use migration assistant, direct from computer to computer. Might take a while but will probably be the safest bet.

Looking at the list of apps you have there, some of them may not be compatible with lion. You know about the lack of Rosetta support and all that yes?

    ..login as root?

will save you an hour reinstalling OSX

What do you think I am, tech-savvy or summit? ;)

    .

  • Take it as an opportunity to become bang up-to-date Joe? You have a backup machine anyway, right? Fresh install of Lion and a fresh install of the latest versions of all your apps...

Migration Assistant is not the one-stop-shop solution it clams to be (although it does a good job for the majority).

I do have several back-up machines... But I get all my software off Knock-off Nigel...

  • OK, how do I reset my new MBP to factory settings in Lion? After transferring my stuff from the old MBP I now have two user acounts on the same machine... Gah! This is bullshit, if I'd been supplied with disks I could do this the old-fashioned way and just start from scratch after a restore to factory settings...

    CS4 isn't working... head explodes

  • spammit teenslain

  • Fuck...

  • You're right...

  • :$

  • hold cmd + r on start up

  • Thanks, Rob... That appears to be working... :)

  • Anyone know an easy way of transferring music from an iPad to a MacBook? Can't drag the files......

  • Dropbox

  • Oh can you use it like that? Good call

  • No idea. First thing that came to mind though.

  • Hmmmmm. Not sure how I can get the files into Dropbox........

  • Thanks, Rob... That appears to be working... :)

no worries. it's actually quite useful being able to do a reinstall etc without having to dig out a cd... (provided hd is knackered)

Oh wait, is this iTunes music?

If so... you're screwed. iTunes is the only way to put music into the iPad and I don't think there's a way of getting it out. The actual databases are encrypted, and the music files get all mucked up.

if it works with an iphone and ipod it should work with an ipad too.

yep - made the innocent mistake of buying something from iTunes and downloading to ipad thinking it would show up in my purchases on the Macbook - no dice :(

    cheers will take a look

  • All my old files and applications are on my new MBP now, only took me three days... Thanks for the tips, ladies and gentlemenz...

I now wanna up the memory from 4Gb to 8Gb, Apple wanted an extra £240 for the privilege whereas I can buy the memory from Amazon for less than £40 and do it myself... It's easy enough to do on new MBPs, isn't it? Any pitfalls I should be aware of?

  • Just checkin' with the experts, Murts... I'm all thumbs, you know that... ;P

  • Murts, how do I upgrade the RAM on my MacBook Air?

  • :)
