I got a copy continuity camera mount from aliexpress for a few £, and I’m quite impressed.
Does anybody know if the magnets align to landscape/portrait on the official version?

They do not. It's free to be moved to the angle you want.
You'd need the longer magnet (and so a different shape) if you wanted alignment.

I know it’s super easy but time is not something I have a lot of.
I’d like to upgrade the drive in two macs, who does it in London and where etc and so on?
Thanks. -

Isn’t there a mac place in Penge? i think it’s an authorised repairer? check that on the apple website as they may be taking a liberty there...

Ah ha. Will look.

It might not be super easy / possible depending on the Macs - what do you have?

Model a1466 (which only has 120gb)and I can’t find the other one right now but that’s old

a1466
That one does have a separate / non soldered SSD drive but it's proprietary to Apple so not m.2 standard.
A shop should be able to replace though I would question the worth. They'll probably charge £150 to £200 minimum and it won't improve the speed of the machine at all.
If it's just extra storage you're after then fine but if it's because things are slowing down, you might be out of luck.

It’s storage. I took all the stuff off, I think, but there’s not enough room to upgrade OS. Sigh.

Have you tried figuring out what the ‘other’ is?

If you've got all the data/docs in the cloud or elsewhere then could be worth doing the OS reinstall and wiping everything in the process - should clear out the 'other' stuff that's taking up space and let you do the OS upgrade. Obviously a bit of a faff reinstalling just to upgrade, but it's mostly just setting it going then leaving it an hour or two to chug through things

I've got a MacBook Air from 2011, it works but only on power (battery is dud). Is it of any use to anyone? Can post... hoping it can find a bit more use before the tip.

Yep installed mac cleaner x yesterday, have to go through the “other stuff” later.
Worth thinking about cleaning it all off to start again.
I’m here because these aren’t my computers and I’ve not been looking after them. -

Open Terminal. Type
yes > /tmp/whatever
which will create a temp file that fills the disk and encourages the system to delete its other temporary files. Watch free disk space tick down and hopefully magically back up. Press Ctrl+C in terminal to stop it.Then
rm /tmp/whatever
to remove the giant file. With luck you'll have more free space than you started with. -

could be useful to me, do you have more info on the machine? 11/13inch? drive and RAM size? ta
-
• #20269
It is 13" / 4GB RAM / 128GB SSD / 1.8 GHz i5. I've owned it from new since October 2012. I should add I don't have a power lead for it, it got cannibalised for parts for my more recent MBP. I've upgraded it as far as Catalina and there's a fresh install ready to be configured.

Update on NAS drive - ordered one last week and uploaded music and synced with google drive I use for client work. A little bit fddly but once worked out the interface it came with is working nicely and able to use it as a music library for streaming to Sonos.
Really simple once setup. Was a few things when adding to Sonos but the forum/YouTube fixed the issues (file paths and permission settings)
Was this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Synology-Desktop-Solution-Installed-IronWolf/dp/B085QJH5PR

Is the SE still the best option for an aging parent?
Looking at O2 and the prices seem extortionate given the cost of the handset, I guess that's to make you go for a more expensive model.
Any other tips greatly appreciated.

Backmarket for a refurbed phone and GiffGaff / Smarty monthly SIM? Slightly better for the environment and more affordable.

Yep, I think most of my cables are at least 5 years old (aside from the USB-C ones which are likely more recent), I mean I charge my e-reader using a Nokia branded micro-usb cable from my E61 which I guess is 15+ years old at this point.
