  • yep facetime is basically the same as whatsapp

  • In that neither will work on your shuffle...

  • Cheers. That will mean I don't have to keep magicking up wifi when we're away.

  • Bit worried.

What happens if someone uses iCloud Drive for photos from 2021-now

They then connect another device that has photos from 2015-2020 and tell it to use iCloud Drive for photos

I assumed it would simply add the older photos to the existing photos on iCloud Drive

    Can anyone confirm?

  • iPhone 14 Pro with latest iOS (16.3.1) here - been googling for a while now, alas to no avail..

..is there really / still no fucking way to set the "require passcode" to anything other than immediately when using FaceID??
I do only want use FaceID (instead of the 6-digit numerical code) to unlock the iPhone (not for AppleWallet or anything else that requires a higher level of security).

This is so damn annoying, always having to pick up the fucking thing every minute and point it towards my face.

Thanks in advance for any help ✌️

  • Charging leads. I know Anker is the forum go to for replacements but how long should a lead last? I’m having a few issues and wonder if it could be the phone and not the leads.

  • I usually get a year or so out the ones i use all the time, and most are anker. More if its not used the same amount

  • Have you checked the charging socket bit on the phone? I’ve had issues in the past with unimaginable amounts of lint and fluff getting lodged in there. When picked out, charging resumes quite happily.
No real comment on cables, you lot must chew yours, my apple ones last years.

  • I have looked and they seem ok but I will get a magnifying glass and have a better look. I have found that the Anker cables don’t seem to seat as well as the Apple ones but, again, it could be some wear on the phone socket. Thanks

  • Thanks. A year is probably about what I get too.

  • I just stick a cocktail stick or similar in the socket and pull stuff out. If nothing comes out, it’s probably not that.

  • I will give it a go, or get someone with better eyesight to do it for me😀 Thanks

  • I used the lead of a retractable pencil to gently scrape out the unimaginable quantity of gunk that can get stuck in a lightning socket.

  • Cables have a lifetime of ~1 year? Really?

The only time a cable goes to the tip is because it's properly fucked because the connector on the end being snapped/bent.

Otherwise most of my cables are at least 5 or 6 years old.

Use a paperclip unbent once every couple of months to defluff the lightning connector port and all is good.

  • Defluffing to commence in the morning! Thanks

  • Graphite pencils? Paperclips?

The point about a cocktail stick is that it's wooden and won't risk causing an electrical short that might kill your phone.

  • Cocktail stick is the plan

  • Don't forget to wet it first so the dust sticks to it

  • Rubbing alcohol/nail polish remover and cotton wool also works wonders!

  • Update. Using a toothpick, rubbing alcohol and a magnifying glass, I managed to remove a significant amount of dirt and dust. Power cord is now making a much better connection. Also cleaned the ear speaker and I can hear a lot better too.
Thanks all for the advice - have a great weekend!

  • There must be a reddit-forum for those kind of images. Prob a sub-thread to the pimple ones

  • Amazing amount of dust and dirt seemed to be causing the power socket not to sit correctly.
    Dr IPhone Popper!

  • Cocktail stick

But being quite hard and stiff it might kill the connector.

Phone doesn’t have the power to short across the pencil lead (not pure graphite is it?), and the lead will break before it breaks the connector should you get hamfisted with it.

    Paper clip though ? No

  • Cocktail stick worked for me!

  • You're really not going to short anything sticking metal inside the socket on a mobile phone.

Any amount of power that could feasibly cause any kind of damage by shorting can only be obtained by negotiation with the device, and a random bit of metal isn't able to do that.
