Ok, so Logic on the mac has just turned a bit shit. If you are running logic 9 on snow leopard at 32 bit which you pretty much have to as most plug-ins have not been upgraded to 64 bit, you are only allocated 4G of RAM, which means if you load a RAM heavy plug-in like Omnisphere, Trillion or Vienna, you constantly get 'you have no memory left' messages. Memory doesn't seem to refresh if you remove plug-ins, so I'm having to restart Logic all the time just to audition patches. Am I doing something wrong?
Omnisphere, Trillian, and Vienna are 100% all 64bit. There aren't many out there that aren't, and especially sample based libraries. Logic is semi 64bit, and should still open 32bit plugins.
Um, if you're RAM is overloading, then use the freeze function in Logic. This renders your instrument track, and therefore uses less RAM.
Pro Tools is better than Logic for a lot of things, reliability being one of them. However it's not great with VST's MIDI sequencing. Logic isn't what it once was. If ever I'm doing PC based music, I would opt for Ableton / Cubase, and a bit of logic if i need the instruments.
Generally I'd mix with Pro Tools though.

My brain is addled with man flu and tablets. Can someone remind me how to put shapes along a path in illustrator please?
-
• #1980
I'd like to know too! I know you can just copy and paste shapes into text in indesign, but something tells me that doesn't work in illustrator...

Art brush? Blend, then edit the path? Hmm.

just got this daisy disk app that shows a visual representation of your files.
reminds me of that screen saver that someone on the forum did a while back. -

I've got that... it's lovely. Plus it does networked drives. Which is nice.

**Interactive PDFs from Indy.
**Any idea why one page with some motion presets changes size from those without when exporting an interactive pdf?
I exported the page as a swf. and placed it back in the indy doc.
Strange. -

Intriguing that they're releasing only (at this stage) as ''an app'' from their app store.
Interesting to see how companies are positioning themselves digitally rather than producing tangible physical products.
Interviewed a guy from Blinkbox this morning. Tesco bought an 80% share of them a couple of months back so I'm guessing they've got a bit of capital behind them. Their idea is that by say... 2015/2020 people won't be buying DVDs when they watch movies, some will be buying blu-ray, but the vast majority will be effectively subscribing for access to streamed video content rather than paying for ownership of a product.
Software seems to be a similar deal. Interesting few years ahead to see how it plays out. -

Also just checked out FCPX - some very clever features - particularly the content recognition feature. Would love to see how accurate it is..

The app store is a great alternative to physical boxes for software. IF it works.
I can see MS and adobe messing this up royally. I just re-built my computer today and having boxes with dvd's + serials is actually quite a nifty thing. A click would be great too, as long as the system will take care of the rest, I can see passwords / serial keys getting lost quite quickly within a company

it seems fairly easy to grasp the basics for a novice (i want to edit but have no idea what a keyframe is, i do know about colour correction and that's quite easy to use if a bit crude compared to photoshop)
it's crashed twice though and i spent a while looking for the save button but there isn't one it just saves the changes automatically, though i had lost everything when the "my rough cut" timeline was empty? but then it appeared again?? there is a timeline history though so i was looking in the wrong 'project' or summat.i'm sure there will be some pro reviews out there soon giving the thumbs up (or not)

Not quite sure what happened to my computer.
one of the account can no longer be access, click on it, go blue and then went back to the menu, tried others and they work perfectly fine.
somehow it's just this one account I simply cannot logs in, even when using fast user switching on another account it doesn't work, bit annoying as it's my work one.
can access files from that account from another (while getting permission to), but it still doesn't explain why this one account is not working.
any idea?
Success!
