Long way up and Ted Lasso are really good

I was really surprised by Ted Lasso, considerably better than it had any right to be.

This is the best description I’ve read of why the Apple M1 outperforms Intel and AMD x86 CPUs;

Anyone got any hands on experience of the difference in size between the 12 Pro & the 12 Pro Max? I'm reading that the Max is too big to comfortably use with one hand (wheyyyy etc etc), which is a bit of a deal breaker for me personally.

Read this last night, fantastic article.
Feel torn between waiting for the upper end MBP13 to get an M1/M1x whatever they are going to call it but that article makes it feel like an unnecessary hold off. -

I have a max and very large hands. It’s often too big to reach across but is great if you have two hands free. If you put a case on then it it’s almost impossible to use one handed.
My mrs has a iPhone X and picking it up now feels like it’s much too small. I came from an iPhone 8 and that just feels laughably small now. -

Noob question:
I have an iphone with whatsapp and I've backed up my whatsapp chat to icloud drive so I can import it to my new iphone. However when I sing into icloud drive on my laptop I don't see a folder saying 'whatsapp chats' or something similar. Should such a folder be there? -

There’s no native method for this within WhatsApp or through backups/restore etc. There was mention upthread about an app. If you search this conversation for Whatsapp you’ll see a few mentions about this.

Yes there is, as mentioned.
Here is their offical page on how to do it @benjybars -

Seconded, eight to pro max. Doesn’t feel giant like many of the reviews say it is.

@Ramsaye that was Android-iOS transfers though.
If you’re just going from iPhone to iPhone then when you open WhatsApp for the first time on the new phone it’ll ask if you want to restore from the iCloud backup.
It’s not a problem that you don’t see a folder of chat files sitting inside iCloud now. They’re kept elsewhere and hidden. -

Oh yeah, sorry, I thought they would have tried that already. It’s dead simple. My bad.

The face recognition of the photos app on both iPhone and Mac keeps merging me into my partners profile. How do I stop that?
Every time I have to select every photo of my face and reassign it to my profile, only to discover it got merged again right after. I don't know how the AI behind it works but we really don't even remotely look alike. -

Two unexpected gripes with iphone are the volume controls and the alarm clock. On android you press the volume buttons and get a menu with sliders for alarm, music and ringtone volumes, I find this much less intuitive on iOS. And the alarm clock is super annoying, having to set up a health app before being able to choose normal alarm stuff like volume etc. Tried to find a better app for this but feels like being transported to 2010.

One of you grow a handlebar moustache?

This is the best I can do. I'd be impressed and quite a bit jealous if my partner could grow a proper moustache

Can’t you use the clock-app for alarms?
-
• #16997
Sure, and I do. It just bugs me that alarm volume etc isn’t easily set unless I use the sleep goal health app thing. I have to adjust system volume to get at the alarm volume, right? My 12yo is laughing at me here.
-
• #16998
Not 100%, but I seem to remember if you press the volume up/down after setting which alarm sound you want, it adjusts the volume of it.
-
• #16999
Yeah side buttons adjusts system volume unless you’re playing music / video

Thanks! That worked. Will it stay that way I wonder or will I have to set it every time? Endless suspense. Tbh I’m happy using the sleep goal thing, I usually get up at the same time every day. Just seems weird to make setting alarms complicated.
There are some films. Ive watched that Coppola/rashida Jones one and The Banker with sammy l-j on there. There’s a prestige Hanks one on there too. I’ve found the Apple original tv series to be surprisingly ok too. I wouldn’t pay for
The service but have enjoyed my free year.
