Yep, the very few times I’ve had Apple laptops get b0rked they’ve always dealt with the problem in-store, with same-day repairs and one straight replacement.

Is the 8 core GPU worth the additional £250 over the 7 core (Mac Book Air)?
-
• #16804
What will you be doing with it?

Don’t forget, you also get a fan.

Probably absolutely nothing that is going to require the 8th core, but if it's a significant performance gap I'd probably get the 8 core because reasons.

I thought that was in the Pro? i.e. both Air's are fanless I thought.

You also get the larger ssd which is a £ 200 option so you can sell the extra spend to yourself that way.

This sounds like a huge pain in the arse and likely just bad luck.
If you just need a web browser for work then maybe the Apple tax isn’t worth it. At least a Thinkpad can be repaired easily...

Handbrake will use it :)
Unsure how often you transcode video files.

12 Mini update, don’t miss a bigger screen at all. love the size, love the weight. battery life is fine, not quite as good as my 11 pro but not noticeably. its 8.40pm, took it off charge at 8am and i’m on 71%

Never update your iOS or OS X when it first comes out. Wait for the early adopters/ Apple truthers/ those who never learn, to update.
Keep at least one generation/version behind and you’ll be all good. Since those mentioned above will have moaned loudly enough that their macs/iPhones are fucked/not doing what they want, for patches to have come out and it to be working pretty much okay, and a quick google will help you fix most of the issues that are left..

why spend all that cash on a Mac Book
I had all the best intentions of teaching myself audio/video editing, of course I haven't yet, not beyond the silly work from home setup (which btw is looking good and turned out to work even better on Windows - as I discovered after bricking the Mac).

Ah.
Good intentions.
Yes, I also have those...
-
• #16816
To be fair good intentions do look sexier on a mac though.

Big scratch on my 12 mini. Done nothing differently to my scratch free pixel 4 that is 11 months old. Maybe bad luck.
-
• #16818
On the screen? Apparently, the new shatter-resistant glass means it's more scratch prone.
-
• #16819
That sucks.
I always put a screen protector on my phone (and Garmin watch). Got my 12 mini yesterday and it'll be a nervous few days being ultra careful before the screen protector arrives (it's not like I'm going out anyway though).

I wish they'd made the new SE 'mini'. Had the old one for years and was gutted when it died; bought the new one recently but it's just not the same.

iPhone 12 Mini is the (more expensive) answer there. Feels much more like the original SE, square edges etc., and very similar size.

yeah, looks great, I just don't put much priority on phones and am therefore reluctant to blow big bucks. Which I know is silly given it's something you carry around with you for 3+ years. Plus I already bought the SE before this was announced.
I had my old one for over 4 years. I buy them outright and just have a £9 per month SIM only plan.

Yep, although the iPhone 12 mini and new SE are really close in size anyway.
Here's a comparison of:
- iPhone SE (2nd gen) at the bottom
- iPhone 12 mini middle
- iPhone SE (1st gen) at the top
(They're aligned bottom/left in the 'pile' photo.)
and side by side.
Hasn't taken me long to get used to the new iPhone 12 mini, and I like the square edges etc compared to the 2nd gen SE.

20:04 "Don't update to Massive Smurf or whatever" lol
I guess it would be easier if there wasn't a global pandemic and you could go into store...
Still sucks though.
