That was a close call there Joe!
I've been waiting months for the new ones to come. I'll be pulling the credit card out as soon at they come.
Powerful 13" that maintains FW is my only request. 7200rpm HDD would also be nice
*wishful thinking on decent speed hard drives
it doesn't take much to swap the drives out, if you are going to do that then why not fit a hybrid drive (seagate momentusXT) or SSD? 7200 drives don't offer that much advantage.
a 2.53-2.66 macbookpro is not exactly slow especially if you max the ram to 8gb

Apparently, the shell will be made out of a super alloy called LiquidMetal. check the vid:

Glad they are being updated finally.

5500rpm is impossible to to use if you're running numerous stems of audio.
I have a 7200rpm in my current mac book which I swapped out myself, it would just be nice to have it as a base spec rather than having to upgrade it after the initial outlay.

got a couple of 12" G4 Powerbooks, which are surplus to requirements, one has an issue with working for longer than five mins, before it falls over, the other works but the battery doesn't hold a charge for longer than an hour or two.
can check on the actual spec if anyone is interested. Just trying to get rid so make me an offer.

oooo I have no need but 12" powerbooks are ace.
Specs for the one that works the most?

will check this evening Soul

those are great machines. a friend of mine got his new 9 or 10 years ago, it's gotten a new hdd twice, the rest still works fine and is used daily

12" Powerbooks are a design classic... I'd hold onto 'em, Corny...

need to get rid slain's, they will not be used, and will just sit in my house gathering dust, best to get them to someone who will use them, re-use, repair, recycle..

Depends ... I have been running a 7200 rpm (3.5inch drive mind you) ... Samsung Spinpoint drive ... Visual Studio on Windows starts up in less than a second ... this is a considerable improvement over my last 7200rpm drive, which Visual Studio would take upto ten seconds to start.
The new Samsung spinpoint drive the "F4" is a 5400 rpm and manages the same seek time .... god knows how. TBH, Windows 7 and think MacOSX cache apps in memory whenever possible to get around hardrive speed issues when loading up regularly used apps.
It ultimately depends however on what you are doing as always. I have bought dual SSDs mainly because I could ... I do Web Dev which means I don't really need high performance ... those who do music, video or graphics will probably have very different requirements.
Nothing though will be faster than SSD.

has anyone else had the fun of running matlab on a mac?
try to manipulate a gigabyte array and watch the machine struggle and cry. going to make a fortran program to do it instead, what a load of shit.
apparently it can be 100 times slower than the same machine running linux. i guess most people never use macs for this sort of computing so mathworks never bothered to get it to work.

I need to get a five year old G4 Powerbook running... I'm getting kernel panics when it tries to connect to a wireless network so I'm guessing the wireless card has come loose (?), any tips?

For those who are interested:
We just received the full specifications of a new MacBook Pro 13 ". We will detail them in a few minutes, but already know that Apple calls its implementation of the Light Peak Thunderbolt.
[UPDATE] Here are the specs of this machine:
Core i5 two cores at 2.3 GHz 3 MB cache
4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz
Hard Drive 320 GB 5400 rpm
Screen 13.33 "glossy 1280x800
Intel Graphics GPU HD 3000 with 384MB of RAM shared with main memory
HD camera FaceTime
8x SuperDrive
Thunderbolt port compatible with the I / O devices and high speed MiniDisplayport
SDXC Card slot, Firewire 800 and two USB 2.0
Digital Audio Output
Integrated Ethernet
Backlit keyboard
Size and weight 32.5 x22, 7x2, 41 cm, 2.04 kg
The Thunderbolt and miniDisplayport share the same connector that does not change its shape. Note that the options will be proposed, such as matte screen, but we do not have the details yet.
Nothing anywhere to suggest that the machine contains a DSS. In fact, the changes are less consistent announced by some, the design remains exactly the same as the current one. -

bummer, i wanted a 13" with full SSD and better graphics
i'm not too clued up on these things anymore, but it doesn't seem like a huge upgrade from my 4 year old 15" mbp (2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 528mb graphics)?
-
• #1595
How the hell did ya find that?
The i5 will be a fair bit faster than the C2D but I dont think the specs are quite enough to replace my 4 year old MBP either too...
SSD next time I guess, maybe with Lion... on with the waiting... -

I have a friend who is a complete Apple Geek.
It was some French Website.

i5's although with a slower clock speed, have a far increased bandwidth, so more info gets in and out quicker than a C2D. Same goes for the RAM.
HD graphics will make a pretty major difference too. if you run an optional screen you'll ba able to put out a far greater resolution that what you can on the 13". and what's the point on a screen so small?

I run a full hd 24in eizo off my mbp 13 with no problems. How are thegraphics going to be improved?

I'm still surprised that there's no blu-ray with the Macintosh.
I wonder if it worth changing the HD on my old 12" PowerBook for a SSD one + newer tech battery?
will it be thursday for UK too?
