i never get the new ones, i always buy older,
i find you can get a older model for less and its just as good, i don't understand having the best and paying for it, I've gone my entire life working on 2nd hand and older models of computers and macs and i've never had it effect me,
If i was to jump from a OS from 8 years ago to the new lion yes i would notice a massive difference but i'm not talking about that. the G5 that i will fix today is running 10.4, not that computer is getting upgraded and everything so will last some more time, its fine, i can do my work and thats all that matters. yesh sometimes its a little slower but i've saved £1000's over time,
the new MBP i got though work struggles just as much and its brand new.so to me having the latest hardly seems to make any difference in the grand scheme of things,

It really comes down to what you do on your computer. Have your activity monitor displaying how much ram / cpu you are using as you work. If its always maxed out then you need to upgrade. If not then you are fine and don't believe the hype that you always need a new apple generation.
I run AE and Maya on my mpb and i really like the benefit of i7. I work in HD and 4GB of ram was not that much. thus the upgrade to 8gb. I hate working on a laptop but it allows me to travel and still work remotely. My powerbooks (15" & 13") from August 2005 still run perfectly, and do PS/Illustrator/InDesign just fine thank you very much :)

I'm having a few issues on my macbook(OS X 10.5.8), occasionally when I want to type in a password or web address or type in general a letter a3ppears - fuck just like that! Sometimes it happens and it's recurring. Any ideas? My track pad seems a little slow to respond too.

I think i did try to start in safe mode and it didn't seem to want to if i remember, it just etierh carried on as normal or didn't go past safe mode, will try again though
I will try this when i take home my work laptop, worth a shot definatly, hopefully this will get ti working agian and i can upgrade rather then replace.
ok this is really werid, two weeks ago and for the whole month before that the Mac has started up into ''hanging here'' mode,
now all of a sudden i boot it up hold T but screen was disconected, connect that and it showing log in screen, so held poswer for reboot (due to keyboard not plugged in, and all of a sudden its booting as normal and loads right up?werid

I've got a weirdo issue with my iMac at work. After about 8hrs of work the finder starts getting really slow. Like 4 seconds between i click something and it gets selected, same thing with that preview thing you get by tapping the spacebar. A restart solves it so I guess it's a memory issue, but I still find it really strange. Doesn't matter if files are local or on server
I've googled but can't find anything. Anyone experienced it? Should I get my boss to buy me more ram?
24", 2.66ghz core2duo, 4gb ram

could be anything, using photoshop? cache and temporary swap files could slow things down or the usual permissions slowing things down, have you applejacked/repaired permissions after software update?
i know this is my usual response but it does often clear up any glitches.going to 8gb ram will see a difference if you work on 2gb+files.
if you do use photoshop try turning off open-GL and restarting.

open-gl as in the GPU settings?
will sort out permissions etc when I don't have as much work on, don't want to risk having my machine out of action

• #1561
open GL in the photoshop prefs.

Have you tried using a activity monitor and check what burns RAM and CPU?
Could also be some background process like indexing for Spotlight etc. -
• #1563
if you disable spotlight and / or journaling it can speed things up. you can use quicksilver instead of spotlight to find stuff

^ Will be watching that closely...it's possible that they will have black cases rather than the standard alu. Would be sweet imo. If the 13" models have 1440x900 screens, will be selling my July 2007 15" MBP shortly!

^that makes us two

I have just bought an Air 11".... i'm kind of hoping they release an ultra small MBP so that I can take it back and swap.

Was gonna go to the Apple Store with my gf and get her first Apple laptop on Wednesday... of course, she decided to jump the gun and go on her own this morning instead, just saw this so called her and managed to stop her at the checkout...
Christ... Thanks for the heads-up...

That was a close call there Joe!
I've been waiting months for the new ones to come. I'll be pulling the credit card out as soon at they come.
Powerful 13" that maintains FW is my only request. 7200rpm HDD would also be nice
*wishful thinking on decent speed hard drives

• #1575
SSD would be nice, and that they keep fw800 rather than going usb3 or that new light beam hooha there's talk about
