  • +1 to all the iphone SE suggestions. I didn't want a massive iphone 6, but wanted something with a little more storage and snappier.

I picked mine up outright, and bought a lifeproof case fo go with it (same dimensions as iphone 5!). Spilt a whole cup of coffee on it 3 days later. Phone survived, rinsed it under a tap (while inside the case) and it's still all good!

Only complaint is that the lifeproof case muffles the microphone a little, but can live with it for all the other advantages it gives (including clumsily dropping it on pavement etc).

  • Yes, ordered both. Pure aesthetics and vanity I know.

  • Keeping both or sending one back? I'd be curious to know which one you prefer

  • Anyone interested in a 2012 Mac Mini (the decent quad core one...).

    Specs:

    Mac Mini 6,2
    2.3Ghz Quad Core i7
    16Gb Ram
    256Gb Samsung SSD
    Intel 4000 graphics (1.5Gb)

Comes with box, power cable and a clean install of macOS Sierra.
These seem to be selling (with the upgrades i have) for about £700 on ebay so £650?

I'll even throw in an under desk mount, like this, so you can keep things neat.

I have an Apple wireless keyboard you can have for an additional £25 if needed...

  • Hey soul, I'm tempted by this.. from what I can understand the mini went downhill after the 2012 model, so this could be what I need.
Ive had my current mini since mid 2010 (2.4Ghz dual core, 8Gb ram) and Ive basically given up waiting for the latest updated model (nearly 3 years now) plus I'm now convinced it'll be rubbish anyway..
    Where are you based?

  • You're right - this was the last "good" version of the Mac Mini.
Still user upgradable ram & hdd - quad core i7 etc.

I'm based in Bromley it's only small so i can bring it to central london if needed. I work by Goodge Street Station.

  • I've got a 2014 MacBook Air, it's the core i5, 4Gb Ram model - looking at the Apple shop it would appear that a new one has double the ram but that's it, am I missing something? Is doubling the ram a massive step forward?

  • Does the new air use a newer gen of chip? If so it might make a fair bit of difference... So for ram going from 4gb to 8gb doesn't make it run twice as fast, it depends on what programme you mostly use?

  • 8gb would probably remove the bottleneck in chrome with too many tabs open you were getting, depending on what other apps you use you may not notice much else.

  • Has anyone made the jump from Apple to Windows recently? If so, how's it going?

  • I've just packed up my Mac Mini in favour of just using my gamin pc (Win 10).

To be fair, it's not really jumping from Apple to Windows as i still have a Retina Macbook, iPhone 7+ and an iPad.

The Mac Mini was left always on as an itunes media server for the house. I've now switched to plex cloud through 1Tb of OneDrive space so the gaming PC stores all the content and i don't have to have it on all the time.

Win 10 is stable and a lot nicer to use than previous versions. Not regretting it so far.

  • OH GOD FINALLY THE NEWS WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR.

    I'm not even kidding.

tagging @CYOA and @Well_is_it as fellow nerds who may be excited.

  • I'm totally losing my shit. Shirt off in the office and everything.
Prob going to buy a new house to celebrate.

  • Looks like the Mac Mini hasn't been forgotten either, but I hope it's included in some sort of actual development cycle. Even if they just whacked quad-cores back in there it'd be ideal for so much more than the current ones.

  • Back in the display game is such a relief. Now I don't have to go off-brand to buy more ludicrously overpriced shiny pixels!

  • With regards to the Mac Pro, we are in the process of what we call "completely rethinking the Mac Pro." We’re working on it. We have a team working hard on it right now, and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements, and we’re committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers.

    OMG OMG OMG OMG

  • My prediction in that other thread might actually become a possibility! The moons are aligning!

  • I think we designed ourselves into a bit of a thermal corner, if you will.

This level of candidness is unheard of.

  • The LG displays are actually dead nice when you see them in person.

  • I'd be happy if they just brought these back...

  • I saw them the other day, was blown away by how nice they looked

  • Yep, plenty kicking about on eBay too. Very tempted...
