Pausing/restarting/reopening the app doesn't do it. I'd presume that if closing and reopening the app does it yours is a software issue?

Our microwave used to cause it. Ended up using ethernet for the kitchen connection. It's about 7 metres away from the microwave but still close enough to be a problem. Intermittent wireless traffic soaking up bandwidth can be a problem too.

I do use an external, just took an old time machine cracked it open and slung in a 3tb disk. Connected by ethernet on the second mac pro port. They do warm up when backing up. I don't have a problem with it working a few times a day, I notice if it's working because I hear the fan running in the time machine. You can use them internally. It won't be spinning most of the time so it doesn't make that horrible racket in the mac pro or cause the fans to work overtime.
Your plan to take a disk image is fine, I have heard of the bearing drying out in HD's that don't get much use but never suffered a failure. You just don't get the potential for latest state recovery that time machine is supposed to provide. I've never had to rescue a system with it so I don't fully trust it but I think we would have heard by now if it didn't work.

I wouldn't trust MS with my backups...

Good point - it definitely seems to happen more when we're using the internet for other things, although not always. So what does that mean? Router capacity issue?
I presume your microwave only caused it when on?!
-
• #10782
Yes, only when in use. I think me might have binned it otherwise. Problem with todays gadgets is they love to just get on the internet and download stuff when they feel like it. iCloud photos is a bitch for chewing up bandwidth. Without knowing how many gadgets you're running it's hard to say but try snooping your router traffic and seeing if there's something spiking in activity.

our microwave can cause our tv to buffer if we're streaming from plex or netflix.

Second one of those usb-c cable adaptors where HDMI hasn't worked - round three should be here tomorrow. Anyone else had that trouble?

OneDrive? I use it because it's associated with my work email, but it's a joke. You can't download folders, only files.
Dropbox just works so well. (But I don't know much about how secure data is, I know there was an issue with it before, and no idea how physically protected the storage is).

lol
By the way can somebody enlighten me why one would need a microwave with internet access anyway?

APFS will be the default filesystem on iOS 10.3!
Gonna sit that one out until everyone else has tried it...

Probably interference with the 2 or 5Ghz band.

I find them all much of a muchness to be honest, but OneDrive is by far the better price.
Not sure what you mean referring to not being able to download folders. You can either sync everything or selected folders on a machine or, if you mean the web interface, you can download a folder as a zip file.

Bit out the blue this... but...
It's funny how everyone is saying the new MBP's are not "Pro" machines and that the 2015 are so much better when actual real dedicated GPUs have made a come back across the entire 15inch range, the 2015's only had one in the very top end machine.
I'm prob going to buy one...
-
• #10793
Do it.
The new port standards are actually so much more pro.
Get used to transfer photos via cable rather than card reader though. -
• #10794
Yeah prob will. Going to see what they do to the Pro's iMacs this year then make a decision... haven't needed a laptop for a year or two but have started to need one recently.
-
• #10795
do you want to buy mine once I have realised I don't need a top specs mac? Probably by end of next month.
-
• #10796
Oh yeah maybe... is it top top top specs including GPU?
-
• #10797
It is... except I didn't bother with the SSD increase, 500GB is plenty I think...
-
• #10798
Oh yeah, might be rude not to... only prob is price... It might be cheaper for me to buy new as I get VAT back when I spend over 2k... what ya thinking?
-
• #10799
I was only joking by the way... I do need a computer and truth be told, I still haven't received mine... Apple is taking its sweet 3 weeks time to deliver...

DAMN YOU!
Could be couldn't it? When I've got the new router I'll use that app Velocio recommended to see what the local wi-fi environment is like and change channel if necessary. Sounds like a plan!
