@BleakRefs > how can anyone keep up with that?
I don't know and it's the age old debate. Looked at a house today that was up for 430k. Vendors bought it for 260k 7 years ago and literally haven't done anything to it. That can't happen again surely (though apparently people said that time). -

@swedeee seller's kids are having to self-isolate so viewing been pushed back a couple of weeks.
Torthworth Rd one had 9+ offers so will be way over asking and wasn't that arsed about it.Offered pretty much asking on the Upper Cheltenham one which makes me feel a bit sick thinking about it Agent said another FTB (couple though) offered 420 and it was rejected. Its just gone back on the market after 2x buyers fell through (apparently nothing to do with the house). Baffled, given the 430 asking was pre stamp duty deadline, that the vendor has declined 420 from FTBs. She's been there 30 years so is definitely in the green.
Some stuff has been done nicely (kitchen, bathroom) but the lounge/dining room floor looks cheap, walls knocked down a while ago so how to regs will they be, electrics look dated and the interior needs decorating.
Will post some pics

Few pics here and in next comment for property linked above. None of my family live in Bristol and none of my mates have bought a house so would appreciate any hive views please if anyone has 5 mins
Garden, tree at a neighbouring house potentially putting it in the shade

That tree isn't going to block the sun as the garden is north facing, so it's not going to be super sunny.
House looks good from the front on street view - Bath stone around the windows and doors looks good. Nice to see the sash windows haven't been replaced with horrid plastic ones.
Valley roof might put some people off, but if it has been dealt with recently then hopefully would be OK.
Parking looks like it would be an issue, if you have a car....

obviously a montpelier dweller is moving out of the centre to build an ecohome....
to me that looks good. maybe a bit high in price but that area is always going to hold value. just think when the carriageworks are fully gentrified.... was in that area a few weeks ago and even saw that the star and garter has been completely redone now with an outdoor bit and a tv. nuts

Always worth having a look at the consumer unit to give you an idea on the electrics.
Unless you buy somewhere that has just been decorated then you'll need to redecorate, even if it looks like you don't need to. Once furniture comes out, stuff comes off the walls, etc then even a decent looking room looks tired.
The lack of doors and exposed staircase may cause issues re fire regs if you add a loft conversion or something later.

radiators. where can I find good + affordable ones ? shops or brands I should look for? anything I should avoid? I need 4 of them, all around 3000 BTU, (at least) one of them should be low to fit under a window (cill at 45cm). Plain-looking, I don't have space for feature radiators ...

It’s huge, and whilst it looks nice from curb side I’m not feeling the interior.

Wow that’s cutting it fine! Congrats
Sorry all. Emergency packing and moving. I'm fucked. I am now an apprentice moverer or something. One dude turned up.

Nothing fancy. Place in Earlsfield. Old place is now gone. This is loads better.

Ah yeah, thought that was the place I picked up or dropped something off a few years back. They’re lovely houses. I’m down by the station now with a similar amount of work to do.

Just to point out that Edinburgh has lots of nice bits outside of Eh1.

I think you're being unduly neggy on a lot of properties you've linked to but this looks likes a lovely and characterful property in one of the nicest parts of Bristol (imo). All houses require ongoing maintenance and redecoration at times and I'm sure you'll want to put your stamp on any place you eventually buy.
There's nothing inherently wrong with old electrics if the consumer unit/RCD is up to date and fascia plates can be easily changed. If the walls were knocked down a while ago and you can't see any cracks in the plaster then it was done fine imo. Modern plaster is very unforgiving of movement.
(I would totally skim over the artex wallpaper tho)
You/I seem to be confused as to what you want and where you want to buy! Is this an investment/flip in a few years or a place you want to put roots down?
@danb get more for your money out of Bristol! Looks huge
