Sadly the rest of the chain (single middle aged woman and youngish couple & no kids) didn't feel that way...
Our house sale fell through at the weekend too, but we're kind of relieved.
Buyers weren't flexible so we pulled out.
Always felt we were selling our place too cheap and yet they kept pushing the price down.
I think if we'd found somewhere decent to rent then we'd have sold but the places we looked at were way too small for lockdown.
Now planning on buying a second property and renting our house out for a couple of years. -

I paid about £1,500 (plus about another £450 for painting) for two alcove cupboards (either side of a chimney breast) and six shelves (3 each side). Think the shelves were about £120 each, cupboards were the rest. Done by these https://www.lahartcarpentry.co.uk/

Ah bummer dude. I've only sold one property and it was white hot so luckily the buyers would have done anything for it. Well, not that but almost everything

So when things fall through like this, how much is lost? Financially that is. Assume survey money and legal costs? Anything else?

Re costs:
We had a couple of surveys during our search for a house £500 for first house and then slightly discounted £400 for a second.
These were full Building Surveys and are essential IMO.
There was a mortgage survey which cost £200 I think.
Haven't got the solicitor's bill yet but we're happy with what they did so no quibbles.
We didn't quite get to the searches stage on the second property which fell through so we have £400 in credit.
But I'm guessing it'll be £2k-£3k in total.
We've had to have a roof fixed and electrics and gas certificates sorted but they would have needed doing at some stage anyway.
Some agents charge for photos and marketing costs. Ours have not invoked this to date but even if they did it was a quite reasonable £200-£300.
Beware some contracts with EAs will mean you could still be liable to pay their commission on the sale if you pull out/withdraw from a sale after an accepted offer.I think the would-be buyers though have lost more, which makes their inflexibility even more surprising to us.

How so with the would-be buyers? Losing more that is. We’re looking to buy this year and this is my idea of research and due diligence.
And sorry to hear the chain fell through. Sounded like a nightmare so can feel your relief!

Niiiice - also good work on the anglepoise, excellent lights for the price imo
-
• #42736
Are you sorted? I have some if you still need them.

• #42737
They are great! Had a few of them stored away for ages as Amazon did an 50% off Anglepoise sale about 18 months ago

Did the bit where it refuses to let you light the main oven until you've set the clock throw you?
-
• #42739
I had experience of similar thing before so I stayed calm and didn't lose my shit.
I even read the manual!

• #42740
I'll find out tomorrow. The roofer's vague "I'll sort it tomorrow" optimistically includes unblocking the drain he contributed to blocking. If not, I'll give you a shout. Thanks!

Every oven I've ever used does this -is it not universal?
-
• #42742
Very nice!
How did the rice turn out?
-
• #42743
I didn't cook any rice.
Shocking I know.
-
• #42744
Hah maybe. It's an odd one. The range up there ^ will let you use every other feature including the small oven and grill without the clock being set.

• #42745
You gotta run it for an hour. Don’t be worried if it smokes
-
• #42746
Yeah I did that last night.
Made the potato waffles taste really weird.

Are you down in picturesque wilts now?

Need to know where you're moving from... Most companies only do local pickups.

Can I show off my new tool chest? My tools had outgrown my crappy plastic Stanley tool box on wheels, most tools were living on the floor... This thing is far too big for our laundry but it'll have to live inside somewhere until our garage gets built... I fucking love it, it's so butch...

FWIW I was quoted £800 for a non-MDF alcove cupboard, two doors, full height. That's proper wood but doesn't include paint, which suits me.
Some other joker quoted over a grand to retrofit some off the shelf wardrobe, one of those plasticky looking things you get from places who advertise during Grand Designs and are called James Sandersen and have a woman tenderly stroking her wardrobe. I want to see knots and paintbrush streaks
