What's the usual three lock plan?
Nightlatch (middle) keyed-alike with one of the deadlocks (with a thumbturn on the inside).
Then a separate deadlock with a different key, requiring keys both sides, to be used for longer term vacancy (e.g. holidays)?
(Preferred it where I grew up that had a single Yale lock that would open at a cough. That with bike and work related keys means I end up walking around like a bloody jailer half the time.)

That's interesting, and even more encouraging (apart from the time wasters).

Just revel in accurate oven temps and proper rolling boils for cooking pasta.
That flat top though is pro AF. So jealous. Homemade flatbreads for every. single. meal. Pancakes. Entire skirt steaks..... recommend Sam the Cooking guy for ideas.

It doesn't even work.

Or its function is unknown to you...
Well done. Been interesting watching it all come along nicely!

keep warm function for up to 2 days

nice nob

Keep warm function is around 60-70 degrees I believe, and in a pressure sealed container.
I've never left it 2 days, as rice changes colour and flavour. -

Get yourself one of those fancy doorbells with the video on. They wire into already existing doorbells.

I feel like I achieve all these things using just a normal pressure cooker and knowing how long rice takes to cook.
My dad goes one step further and uses a diy pressure cooker (by stacking 1-2 pans filled with water atop the cooking pan).
I'm so curious as to whether the fancy cooker could possibly be better in some way, but don't think I'll ever know.

A $400 rice cooker is a real luxury, but then again so is a £3000 range cooker.
Pretty much the first comment my mum makes in any meal is how well the rice is cooked, as passionate about it as an Italian would be with pasta that’s not al denté and correctly salted...
If I didn’t have this one, I’d still buy a rice cooker, but considerably cheaper. I’ve used it about 2000 times in the last 4 years though, so I reckon value isn’t so bad.

We use our rice cooker 2-3 times a week. Wasn't $400 but its great. Hong Konger wife and family never cook rice in anything else. It does it way better than I do and for much less effort.

lived with someone who had a rice cooker during my phd. was awesome - truly perfect rice every time. would love to have one again but they take up so much space. would be great for a utility room off a kitchen

Rice cooker is on the same thing as air fryer, just don’t have the space but would love both.

isnt rice cooker mainly about keeping cooked rice fresh? Otherwise good jasmine rice with 2x water, 20 min induction '5' with timer is as easy as a rice cooker.
Basmati can absolutely fuck off.

+1 to proper rice cookers
We’ve tried other ways over the years but a decent Japanese rice cooker is a must - we get through about 10kg of the Japanese sushi style rice every 2-3 months.
Currently have a small Panasonic one which is fine but not as good as the zojirushi one we had before I blew it up by connecting the wrong plug in the transformer...
That was a fun day -

I can see both sides. When I lived in China and ate rice daily, I owned one. Now I don't. I use a microwave one. Its a lot of ££s for marginal gains from a single purpose kitchen implement depending on how much you eat rice.

In Asia, it would take up the space used by your toaster, as it’s rice for breakfast too!
-

I’d say that with very consistent and even heating (induction) and known quantities you can get really good and consistent results.
On a gas or radiation hob, different burner sizes and temps, less consistent.
It’s why microwave cooking rice is decent, because you can get exact measurements of rice and water, and exact times on the microwave.

So any recommendations for a cheap rice cooker? We get through rice quite a bit here

I've used this one for 6 years now:

Medium in terms of price. Does what it does well.
House numbers a bit wonky.....
In all seriousness, congrats! Hope the move goes smoothly.
