Microwave rice cookers make me sad.
But then again I eat a lot of rice, and I have a Cuchen rice cooker like this:https://edenrestaurantsupply.com/collections/small-appliances/products/wha-lx0601d

Finally have an oven and a hob that works. No more single induction plug in and microwave as had been the case since we moved in.

My girlfriends mother is Filipino, an excellent chef, and uses nothing but a microwave rice cooker. I take the view that if she approves it then it’s the best thing to do.

Nothing wrong with a microwave rice cooker really, other than me being a rice snob.
Pressure cooked rice, with different cooking settings for different types of rice and grains, including porridge and also flavoured rice, like Congee, keep warm function for up to 2 days, timer mode, induction heating are all super nice to have.
It also has voice control, which is pretty irrelevant.I also eat rice probably about 10 meals a week, and my microwave has a plate that rotates and keeps coming off, and I hate it.

I know we had rice chat before, but sticking some in a pan with some water takes seconds. What does this do for $400?

Consistency in results and texture.
Once its cooked, keeps rice at optimal done level and temperature.
No need to time the cooking of the rice to match other things you're making. You just serve once your main dishes are done.
Ease of cleanup, no burned bits. No overflowing, avoiding starchy water over your hob.
You don't break/crush the rice grains while stirring or cooking. Every grain is cooked, not crusted/hard at the bottom of the pan.No tolerance in a Korean household for overdone, underdone, soggy or cooled down rice.

Also I tend to eat short grain white sushi rice, which is tricky with starch levels, soaking, rinsing etc.
Rice cooker takes out a lot of user error. -

Perhaps its more of a Korean and Uncle Roger thing then?
Korea is well known as a country of electronic convenience. All the Koreans that I know, plus all my extended family (9 aunts and uncles and their kids) have rice cookers.
But alot of their kitchens don't have ovens or grills as they just don't use them.
The rice cooker on the other hand gets used 3 times a day, 7 days a week. -
