  • Nearly done getting everything out of the old flat.

Can't recommend Simply Removals enough. £500 inc vat all in for packing service and move including materials etc. turned up on time, extremely efficient and careful with the delicate stuff (including the bikes!)

  • We're looking to buy back South again. Herne Hill, top end of Brixton, Tulse Hill, Forest Hill etc
How much are 3 bed gaffs going for now over that way?

    Zoopla >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • So you beat me Spenceey! Congrats mate. We exchanged yesterday. We complete on the 15th of Feb.

    That's good news!

We're completing tomorrow. Moving in on Saturday.

Then the fun starts, gas man coming on Monday to check supply and plumber on his way Tues/Weds to quote.

If you see anything nice, give me a shout - I'm in the market for similar.

  • So I'm pretty sure they're on some serious PEDs. There's a skinny Asian guy (I think they're both Kazakh) who's hauling three boxes at a time down three flights of stairs without a break.

  • Just started looking at properties this week. We're looking for a 2 bed with a garden for about £250k. So far seems to be Catford, Lewisham area. We were hoping for Peckham but I think we're a bit priced out for what we want there. Fingers crossed might be seeing somewhere that needs a lot of work but looks great in Brockley.

    Opinions re Catford?

  • Catford's alright. The Corbett Estate properties seem to be popular (at least it didn't take our landlord long to sell ours). Hither Green and Lee are similarly priced and transport linked but lighter on gyratories and have a few more interesting pubs etc.

  • ^ this. I am literally moving to Hither Green as we speak.

    Van is now fully loaded

  • I'm eyeing up Hither Green too. Going to have to live in a storage container for a bit, though.

  • My next house move will be focused on how close it is to Manor Meats

  • Ha have you been there? I rode past the sign the other day on the way to Sainsburys and was intrigued.

  • Yeah went there two weeks ago, obviously not ideal food for you, but they keep better hours than our local butchers!

  • Yeah was more intrigued by the farmers marketesque sign pointing into an industrial estate than the food. I like! I might set up a poncy microbrewery in one of the lots.

  • This thread has made me look at houses again. Just found a place that looks perfect, annoying that i won't be able to buy anything for 6 months :(

  • How can I crowdsource a mortgage?

  • Does seem like everyone is heading to higher green at the moment.

    Bidding war!

  • I have never really thought to mention it on here but I am a plumber based in N16, I work with a nice team of mates in other trades if anyone needs work doing.

  • Just got the call.

    I now own a house.

    Yippeee!

  • I now own a house.

    Nice one spenceey.

And now your real problems begin.

  • Well done Spenceey.

  • After a long and hetic day we're now sat in our house and surrounded by boxes. Not as much work to do to the place as we first imagined.

  • Belated congratulations spenceey.

I had a meeting with a mortgage adviser at the Halifax yesterday lunchtime, the first serious thing I've done about this whole process. It seems I underestimated the amount of money I might be able to borrow, and what I thought was my upper limit now seems like it might actually be realistic.

Gonna have a lot of sums and head-scratching to do, after which I'll probably be back here with no end of stupid questions. Fun.

  • I tried to view a flat at the weekend, but apparently the agents were all out on back to back viewings Saturday and Sunday, and now the flat is under offer. I'm bored of it all already.

I need to do the mortgage adviser thing too but that sounds even more boring than calling estate agents. zzzz
