  • Welcome

  • Ah cheers Tom, that's a great rundown. Closer for me to get out into the Kentish lanes too!
Went to the Lord Northbrook the other day with the NCT crowd as was presently surprised. Always thought it was a bit shitty up that end :)

  • Good restaurant opposite, too I think. Keep going that way and you end up in Blackheath, and there be dragons. Standard further-afield shout-outs for Rox Burger on Lee High Road (there's none better) (although currently inaccessible by road due to a coach in a sinkhole) and the Dacre Arms a little further north, nice old-style cash-only boozer.

  • I cycled to Beckenham the other day down a cycle path that Google Lady insisted on calling 'Worth Way'. There are some really nice bits of that above and below Catford.

  • Also the Lord Northbrook up by Lee station
We used to live opposite the Northbrook (mid 80s/mid 90s) Burnt Ash Road - Millwall pub - where Glenda Jackson's *son lost an eye in a glassing incident and Max Wall could be found scowling at the bar before scuttling back to his bedsit in Southbrook Road.
That side Handen Road - Manor Park Road - up to Hither Green - ok now the shitty pubs have gone all Gastro

*Daniel Hodges. Born in 1969; father, Roy Hodges; on February 21, 1992 lost his left eye when a broken beer glass was shoved in his face after he stood up for two black men who were being taunted by whites in a south London pub.

  • It's pretty dense with retired fixieskidders tbh

Ha Ha - this one bailed out to Shooters Hill 2004

  • Ahead of the curve! Too much vertical gain that way for my liking.

  • True - what goes down must come back up at the end of the day :)

  • OK, so another recommendation request. Any suggestions for blinds suppliers? I'm thinking of getting some vertical blinds.

  • Which part of London's finest London?

For north and east I would recommend Shades of Chingford.

  • They only do orange though

  • West London, although was thinking of ordering online and fitting myself.

Ordered them for two places now, always been pleased with the result.

  • Offer accepted! Just getting the AIP converted into a full mortgage seemingly the last but not insurmountable block.

  • They only do orange though

  • @7ven Good Luck mate!

  • I bought some blinds from https://www.directorderblinds.co.uk/ a few years ago, they're very nice, still going strong and they have good support (were able to quickly supply a replacement handle after kids recently broke one).

  • We got Roman blinds from John Lewis, from the service where you choose your own fabric and then they make them up for you.

We've had to call out to get them repaired 4 times in the last two years. Luckily the woman who fixes them is really nice and likes our cat. The material quality of the cords is crap though, hence the problems, which are now, hopefully, rectified.

  • I have also used these twice, quality is good.

  • Holy shit you must have made a killing. Lucky!
My Aunt was offered a flat in Barbican when it was first built for £7k. She said nah.

There must be a lot of folks in the East End who have made a killing, all these 1mil terrace houses were being given away for a few bob to anyone who would take them when my mum lived here...

  • I'm always confused why the residents of Albert Square look so fucking miserable. Dot Cotton must be minted!

  • do not under any circumstances use hillarys blinds. they are the worst company I have ever dealt with - and the rudest too.

  • I'd recommend Tuiss blinds, great build quality and decent prices.
