Ha ha ha. It's all a big cliquey in-joke, but does nobody see the absurdity of this obsession with UTFS?

The fact is, sometimes, people just want to chat about their favourite topic. That's "chat". CHAT. As in talk. Or even discuss. That involves SAYING some words. And listening to the ones that come back too.

But because everything in the entire world of cycling EVER has already been said previously by other people who wanted to chat about their favourite subject a couple of years ago and have had the satisfaction of having already done so, nobody else may now speak. At all. Ever. They may, however, if they are very, very good, and promise not to say anything out of place, use the search engine to read (quietly) the pearl necklaces of wisdom, which were lovingly spanked out across the forum many moons ago by those who KNOW.

Now I can see the logic in keeping a thread contiguous. It keeps all info on that topic together. In one place. Collected and easily re-read. That makes good sense. But some threads branch off into another topic. Or they start off well and just descend into "comedy" wank and choke up on rubbish that has nothing to do with the OP. Yet nobody may repeat a question, even though times may have changed and there might be new info available, or new people to give it. UTFS and STFU.

I've seen people actually ask questions that haven't been asked on the forum and STILL get told to UTFS - on the rest of the internet, not just this site.

So... By following that rationale... Everyone should (apparently) just search the Net for everything. Cos if it ain't already here, it'll be on some other bike forum.

Which, in turn, begs the question of why the old hands even bother to read the boards at all anymore? Desperately searching for some scrap of new info which hasn't been said already? Or just hovering like hawks to see who can look clever by shouting UTFS first?

I once pulled someone up for biting newbies really unnecessarily, got bitten by another old-hand and ended up the receiving end of the single queeniest post I have ever seen on any internet forum anywhere ever in the entire history of the internet. Ever. I'm sure it was meant to be the mother of all put-downs but it was more like the Widow Twanky of mincey bitching.

Either the site needs a "newer members area" (not the fucking nursery) for people who are newer and want to do what the other people on the forum already did a couple of years ago and TALK, cos (shock!) some people just want to do that, rather than dredge through old threads that are half-full of bygone in-jokes from a couple years ago (how we did laugh). Or the people posting new threads need to stop being so bothered by the oh-so scathing UTFS and start saying fuck off and ignoring it.
