  • I play rugby for guys hospital. At our ground there are some flood lit netball courts no one ever uses as far as i'm aware. We are training on monday so i'll ride up and check out how polo-able they are

there might be a cost involved tho and they're in honour oak park, no hoodlums but miles away!!

  • I've been using this site for a while to locate basketball courts around town. Not sure if it's of any use to you guys though.

oooh, whereabouts in HOP? I saw some the other day I wanted to check out :)

  • the problem with that courts is that people will use them regularly

  • Time for Polohaus.

  • the council we're very much "No." to me about using columbia road. maybe the assoc needs to head up a proper campaign on them and other councils.

  • HOP Courts are here theres also some more netball courts in dulwich SE21 7AL not sure if they are lit tho. both actually belong to kings college london.

  • The abandoned tennis courts in Regent's Park would be a great location for a bespoke court - I was having a nose around there the other day with an eye to using it for North Polo. I will refrain from hopping the fence in future, as it might harm any chance we have of getting sanctioned use of them.

  • You might be better off finding a court/space that is under-used and needs regeneration, then offering to help raise funds.
The league/throw ins and tourneys are frequent enough to warrant a dedicated court.

I don't believe we should give up on Newington yet. lets approach these kids try to get them playing.

    Matty - link??

Courts are the major objective being put forth in the LHBPA at the moment. Anybody want to join the courts committee? Ray and Iain are heading it up at the moment.

Let me echo this. Courts are currently the main objective of the LHBPA. Discussions on the forum are good, but if you are really interested in getting something done, you should join the courts committee.

Ray: Can you call a meeting and post it here?

  • not being a tosser but downham is hardly perfect. Small, not central, no toilet. I'm not saying newt is either, but surely teh more central the better and less likely to have estates round?

+1. Downham is too small. But you're still a tosser.

  • ah sorry gabes i thought because ray works on that stree that he couldnt have failed to have found it, apparently he did.
    @matt, "its just true dude"

'Kin hell, that's about 200yard from my house. 1 vote for here!
Let me know if you need any inquiries made, happy to help.

  • well as i said i'll be there on monday, i know john the groundsman so i'll have a word, i'll post up here and let the LHBPA guys know aswell

Ah, groundsman contact trumps my proximity card. I'll leave it with you then.

These courts would be sweet as they're brand spanking new!

    HOP FTW!

i know it - Has anyone spoken to Regents Park about this?
The best route would be to hold a small event - polo tourney - it fits their mandate

The park has a strong focus on sport and exercise, due to it’s excellent sports facilities, and we welcome events that help increase public participation in sports and exercise.

Under site build put in place proposal to rejuvinate that section - maybe put in temp costs against permanent fixtures?
Then go back to them suggesting it be made a permenant Lit hard court - With Polo markings - amoungst others

  • there are 2 big new astros there but up the hill at the back there are a few old netball courts, i'm not sure if they were part of the refurb but i'll check. one problem could be that there a bit precious about the ground and i dunno how well skid marks would go down...either on the court or in players pants...although there are toilets so that shouldn't be a problem

  • re. Regent's Park - I think it would need some work doing to it: the surface is pretty poor, with weeds coming through the asphalt. Will take some photos over the weekend.

Would be great location though: there is a pavillion with shower/toilet facilities, no nearby houses, relatively central

  • I was only thinking about a court with lights that is central-ish and trouble free

  • I don't believe we should give up on Newington yet. lets approach these kids try to get them playing.

No-one is giving up on Newington, but with the volume of league games being played there at the moment, we need to find more.

Unfortunately there is a risk of losing these courts by over-using them and playing too late :(

  • Hi guys,

Sorry been super busy today, but would like to call a meeting for those interested....Pretty much everyone.

Firstly i need to catch up with Roxy, Mike, and Iain to go though what's been said to Hackney, Islington and Southwark already. As im sure you guys realise, Building a court isnt as simple as heres a bit of land lets level it and build some walls. Planning is a major issue.

Obviously we have a history of supporting residents and we are "pro"-cycling and look after the courts we occupy. All this and more needs to come together, IMO some kind of document/fesiblity study of our existing and other possible courts. I'm as you probably know i do this kinda thing all the time... This is probably easier than other projects i've worked on.

So i'm putting this date forward:

Thursday 8th October ***(next week) to get together.

Hopefully by then i would have met with R.M and I. Iain and i will probably head this up and speak to the relevant boroughs. I would suggest that a westie and southie could volunteer to do the same. I think its important that we cover all points of the compass as each court has very different needs.

    Thanks,

    Ray

Ps. If there is a major issue with the time this can be shifted.
