Not Merino, but has anyone else tried Uniqlo's HeatWave (?) stuff? Very cheap, not bad for casual riding.

Get some cheap Smartwool in advance
-
• #108
nice! have you used them? Was gonna get some swrve ones on their sale but this is dead cheap

I have bought from Rock n Run before and they give very good service - I have not used these bases before but Smartwool has a good rep, supposed to be a bit more durable than Merino - £19 can't really go wrong though? Should perhaps add though that this is advertised as Micro weight, so not sure how this compares to regular Lightweight base layers?

Why is it that very few companies do a proper small size? Most companies seem to start at 36" chest, but i'm 33" and 6ft. I can't believe that i'm in such a small minority but it seems impossible to get things that fit right (as base-layers) but aren't too short.
:(

Thanks, but I'm a lwt rower, so I'm stuck at 70kg, and about as broad as I want to get.
Good idea though ;)

think i got the same troubles as you. just ordered a medium, doubt it'll fit good but we'll see.
the baselayer i use now is a small from chocolate fish merino, fits me great in the body but the arms ends 4 inches up my wrists, still love it though, when it's colder the arm thing is ok with a windbreaker on top

I've got a women's medium Icebreaker baselayer (that was in a charity shop as Mens small) which fits me perfectly, but is too short at the waist. HH do good small sizes as well, but they can still end up a bit short. Frustrating!
Maybe I'll get something "tailored" by rapha!

short body must be worse than short arms?
if you're decent with a sewing machine it's not hard to take a bigger size in a bit. Wish I had my machine here in the uk, it sits unused back in sweden which is a right old shame

True. It would just be nice to get something that fits, just once. But yes must not complain

no harm in complaining if it leads to something good

Right, further to the discussion above, and glancing through the previous pages, I emailed Finsterre. I was slightly short, but I basically repeated our rant about small sizes starting at 36".
Well I received a very nice email back, with the offer to try a small and medium sizes, and the recommendation that I would probably fit a medium.
This seemed unlikely, so I took them up. And I was almost wrong! If I didn't want an absolutely fitting one, or was 36" + I would definitely go for the M, as it is the S is really nice and snug, and plenty long enough in the tail for me (6ft).So - I would highly recommend anyone who struggles to find right fitting base layers to try them out :)

Anyone got a discount code for embers merino?
-
• #124
I know what the website is. It's just were they giving out a discount code at the Bike show?
The gillet looks great for winter, shower resistant outer and 300 gsm merino inside.
