I lasted 10 minutes... I just purchased a Squeezebox Transporter as the DAC is apparently superlative and can only be bettered by spending 10 times the money on a Linn.
I am excited.
I'm so simple.

My system is basically:
Arcam amp, Monitor Audio floorstanding speakers, Squeezebox (Transporter once it arrives), FLAC source files (I no longer play the MP3s), all driven from a UPS to ensure clean power (unintended consequence of buying a UPS larger than I needed). It sounds lovely, but once the Transporter arrives it sound heavenly.

I've recently purchased the Denon RCD-N7 CEOL. Pretty cool unit, drives 65Wx2 RMS, supports Ethernet/Wi-Fi as well as having an iPod dock etc. Supports AirPlay, so iTunes can send directly to it, or send any audio (eg Spotify) directly to it using AirFoil. It also supports internet Radio which is actually quite nicely implemented.
There was the odd bit of skipping earlier, but that was due to my old wireless router only supporting 802.11g. I've got given one supporting 802.11n and the problem has gone away.
Speakers are Dali Lektor 2s, considering adding a BK Gemini sub into the setup in the next few months.

Good stuff - I hear very good things about them.
My setup has changed a little recently:
I have swapped out my Gainclone power amp and slightly ropey Advance Acoustic pre-amp for a Yaqin MC10 EL34 based valve amp.
Doing this also required purchasing a new Phono-Preamp - I got a very unassuming looking Angel Audio pre - which is an amazing bargain - £80 and will see off most Phono-Pre's up to £500
Speakers remain the same mass loaded transmission line Fostex based ones and CD player is still my trusty old Rega Planet (mk1) being fed to a Beresford DAC, as is my HTPC with flac/spotify etc. Not forgetting my beast of a record player - a CLD plinthed Lenco GL75 with a Rega rb250 arm and Denon Dl110 cart.
Moving house soon - so will have to wait and see what it sounds like in the new room...

i'm having a nightmare with a Miller & Kreisel V - 125 powered Sub and i'm looking for advice. i blew it a few months ago and after a brief visual inspection on the driver and fuses etc assumed it was the amp. rather than get this repaired i found an NOS VX 1250 Amp for sale in the US that i purchased. i fitted this the other day to find absolutely no sound coming from the sub whatsoever, other than an electrical hissing at the point where the wires from the amp binded with the posts on the back of the driver at full power. having fiddled around with different variatitions of wiring it up i can only assume that the driver is damaged somehow, but cannot see it.
can anyone advise if there is somewhere i can get the driver repaired, or a suitable drop in replacement for a 12" M & K 4 ohm superfast driver from the UK? i've tried Mavin in the states, but the postage costs are putting me off, i'm sure i would get something superior from the UK for the same price. thanks for any help or advise!

Check the voice coils on it with a multi-meter - set it to measure resistance and place it across the + and - terminals - it should read a couple of ohms normally - if it reads "infinite" /9999999 etc then the voice coil is blown.
it will probably be cheaper (and a LOT simpler) to buy a new sub - BK are pretty well regarded and reasonably priced: http://www.bkelec.com/hifi/sub_woofers.htm

brilliant. thanks Dan, i will get hold of a multimeter so i that I can rule it out. I've gone far enough down the route of replacing bits that I am going to stubbornly continue and try and repair the damn thing myself! any pointers on drivers still greatly welcome.

Any thoughts on the Squeezebox Touch? I was running: USB interface -> Rega Mira 3 -> Epos M12i from my desktop. Now I've got rid of the desktop and need a new solution...

It's awesome.
I use a Squeezebox Transporter, but previously had a Touch for ages.
Cons: You need to host the music externally (on a computer or NAS), and you need to run a server externally (install software on a computer or NAS, does not have to be the same one that you host music on).
Pros: Phenomenal sound (for the money), Android app is wonderful (I don't use iPhone, so I don't know about that), web based app is pretty good, can listen to music remotely if you configure your home router to allow it.
Plays FLAC (inc 24bit) amongst other things, so it's pretty good.
I would recommend also getting a NAS that has support for Squeezebox if you happen to be looking at that too. Or leaving your computer on works just as well but isn't as instant as having it available 24/7 because the NAS is on 24/7.

Cheers, I guess that settles it. Had a server running anyway before I took everything apart, so I guess that's not really a con. Transporter looks epic, might see how I get on with the Touch first!

nice looks like ATC's and a 72 with a couple of 90's? or a flat-cap? or is that just a power supply for the tuner and your running a quad/naim mix?
-
• #524
Thanks! They are ATC'S im running 2 flatcaps on to the cd and on to the 72, the 7's need loads of power 86db sensitivity so I use a quad 606 - 240wpc.It all sounds pretty great!
