  • argh! my fncken power amp has pooed its pants again. balls. I think it doesn't like being left on for long stints of buddy lee, followed by a wire binge.

I think i am going to have to move it on and spank heaps on a Radford.

  • Thanks - I'll have a look

Excuses, excuses--admit it, you've been 'singing' again. :)

  • Hey, you jerries love a bit of black metal at big dbs...

I’m just keeping my fans happy

  • High on the schickterscale

  • GF's brother is looking to replace some cones in his speakers (will chase him up about which speakers they are) best place for him to start looking?

  • I have a pair of KEF 104ab monitors - can anyone recommend an amp for these? Cheers

  • Are the voice-coils blown or is it just the foam surround that has rotted?

  • I have no idea? he's asked for where he can buy them to repair his speakers, I'm asking the forum hive mind..

  • Ok you wonderful folks... my AMP has bloody died! One speaker is super quiet, I've checked wires and switched speakers and the fault lies within the AMP not the speakers/wires.

It only cost about £150 and repair is being quoted as over half that, and of course it might happen to the other channel at any time, ore anther fault may occur, so I'm kinda getting tempted to just grab a new one... as I did in the end with my continually faulty older record player.

    So...

Q1. Anyone on here have any recommendations on repair places that might be slightly cheaper than £100. @Dazaa you still about champ?

Q2. Any recommendations if I go new? It has to be quite small as it sits on a shelf currently and there isn't much depth. Like the look of the Cyrus One, apart from the glossy front. Also like the attached but no idea what it is... this is to be paired with a Carbon Debut, Apple Airport and some Kef 101's.

    Any advice greatly appreciated, idontreallyknowwhatiamdoing.jpg.

  • Holy shit that's nice. totes wants.

  • can anyone recommend some lightweight 80's style headphones that sound great?
My other half wants some like this:

edit - maybe I need to get this:

  • The Cyrus stuff tends to be fairly narrow and deep, so I'd get the tape measure out and check (remember to include cables/plugs).

For new Cyrus One money you could get something tasty second hand. I had a Naim Nait 5i for a few weeks which I was impressed by, especially for the money.

  • Porta Pros are great for the money. Have no idea where mine went, might have to buy a new pair now

  • Its a shame but these days most repair people will ask for something like £50 just to look at it.
As you say something else could go wrong not long after the 'repair' job.

  • @kboy I know righhtttt?
@pjhobs I'm kinda over second hand, I know quality things are built to last but I want cold hard warranty papers that I can throw in a store employs face the second I hear a crackle (I would never be that obnoxious really).
@not4sale to be fair, its only fair to pay for any time or advice, its just in this case its not the smartest option as anything could go wrong after. I spend about 200 quid in 3 different places trying to get my Beogram working again, every time it did it only ever lasted a few months. I dont have the time for that sort of messing about anymore, I just want something that works...

  • Another vote for porta pro's. They have a certain sound I think, but it does sound good.

  • What about one of those T-amps? Seems to be best value for monies these days, and there's plenty of small ones to chose from

  • I've only just discovered, after about 6 years, that you can take the fabric off the speaker grill on a Linn Helix and then put the faceplate back on. I'm not convinced it has any effect on the sound, but it looks amazing, so that's at least 10% extra enjoyment right there

  • I have no idea what they are? Got a link?

edit: I see they are a class of small amp, could be keen, only issue is most only have one input...

  • Yeah true. What do you need? aux and phono?
