in which case - do you know the model number of the drive unit - it may well be used in other speakers which where its contempories (not neccessarily just JBL...)

I have the model number but this is where I get stuck as I have no idea where to begin looking? Maplins? I asked around a few hifi stores (Richer, Sevenoaks) but they offered no advice.

no - chances are the won't be produced anymore so your best bet will be ebay/audiophilecandy for drivers/dead speakers most likely, alternatively you may be able to repair the tear
nb - sticking any old driver that is the same size etc in won't work as speaker drivers are VERY specific (they have a set of electro-mechanical parameters that mean that mixing even similar model drivers may result in a very odd sound) even replacing both left and right drivers can be fraught with problems (esp with bass drivers, as the cabinets are usually designed around the bass unit) as the crossover may need adjusting due to different freq responses and sensitivties etc (not to mention possible phase issues)

Awesome, i'll keep looking. Thanks

can you stick a photo of the tear up - often repairing it can be fairly straightforward (and certainly a lot cheaper!) here is an example: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/130618-refurbishing-yamaha-ns10m-pair.html (lots of good info on that forum btw)

Quad 405-2 which I re-capped and upgraded opamps, etc. feeding a pair of BBC/Rogers LS5/9 loudspeakers. Sounds awesome.

decided to definately sell my PMC's would anyone on here be interested?
will sort some pics out next week.
the only reason i'm selling is the room is a bit small and i'm going to downsize.
loads of reviews out there in internet land and if you don't know about PMC's rep in home and studio circles then stick with richer sounds. -

how much dollar? what model?

TB2 with the metal dome tweeter in oak
they look like these (not my pic) i'm looking for £350 -

have a pair of these on their way, hopefully they should suit the room a bit better than the PMC house shakers, they are tiny but have a good rep and designed by 2 ex BBC engineers.

Those remind me of some Acoutic Energy AE1's that a hifi shop in Leeds played to me about 15 years ago. They were demonstrating to me (a poor student, just starting out on his hifi adventures)that small does not mean no bass.
The AE1's were on the end of some serious kit, I cannot remember what it was, and they were amazing. Tight tuneful bass, but with convincing impact.
If the Xeros are anything like the AE1's, they should be great.
What source and amps do you have?

Great stuff, my cousin's 90/92 combo and CD3 driving a pair of Royd Minstrels circa 1995 got me interested in hifi when I was 17. I had never heard anything like it at the time.
For years I had to make good with a begged and borrowed Richer Sounds rig, but when I started working, and could afford it, I bought an old Naim 42.5 and 160 (still use the 160!).
I used to have a Planar 3 which I upgraded over the years (changed everything apart from the platter and the main bearing) never been a better turntable for the money. In fact when I bought my Gyrodec, I couldnt bring myself to sell the Rega, and it has been on long term loan to a mate of mine in Paris for about 5 years.
I've not had a go on any of the recent Naim digital stuff, I imagine its probaly great. As a company they seem content to wait until they have got a format right, before rushing to get the latest bit of kit into the market.

Anyone got a nice valve pre (or possibly integrated) amp for sale?
Ideally with a Phono stage -

One of my cheap speakers is toast. I could probably find a replacement driver(s) for it but not sure I can be bothered. ie. it's an excuse to look around for bigger noise makers. Are there any neat solutions invented in the last 5 years that would allow me to listen to Bangin' Choonz(tm) in my ground floor 1br apartment and have minimal effect on neighbours (not headphones)?
I recall people using spikes to jack speakers off the ground - reckon this would help reduce noise heading towards neighbours? Any suggestions for average quality 2 or 3 ways with an 8-10" woofer? Can't be too tall (60cm max) otherwise I'll have to shuffle stuff around. -

It depends how the flat is built but I would have though a direct coupling to the fabric of the building would exacerbate the noise. (it's mainly the lower frequencies which cause problems)
It would make your speakers sound better though.

Essentially you want Leema Xero's with some decent stands.

The pins mean less contact with the floor so reduced transmission of vibration, I thought.

Do you have wooden floors?
You're right, but it's for acoustic benefits rather than transmission reasons, though one may begat the other.

Bookshelf speakers on stands? Then I wouldn't need to play as loud as the audio would be ear level?

They don't stock them anymore, I already emailed them.
