  • Well that's why I'm curious... It defies everything I know about speaker cabinet design and acoustics.

  • I've got a Beolit 15 and it's amazing for its size. Easily outplays anything half decent, it's good enough to be compared with a proper setup I think, esp for smaller rooms

  • Bit off topic for this thread, but after a quick search I couldn't find an appropriate thread... anyone able to point me in the direction of home projector advice. After something for movies. Would love to be able to send audio via airplay...

  • Send audio from what to what? Built-in projector speakers tend to be a bit of a token effort at best...
I've been pretty happy with the Optoma HD600X-LV I got four years ago for £380 (3000:1 contrast ratio, 2500 ANSI, 720p) but for the money you can get 1080p and probably better brightness/contrast now.

  • Cheers, will look that one up. That sort of budget too...
Audio wise, send from the projector to my stereo via Airplay, although I guess if I play from a Laptop I wont actually need that....

  • Optoma were definitely the recommended 'budget' brand when I was looking but you know how technology moves... For what it's worth, the bulb in mine is now saying it's run out but I haven't noticed a change in brightness (if the has been one) and that's been four years of heavy use.

For audio I'm not sure, we use HDMI into a receiver and wired speakers - you might get sync issues but I don't see why you couldn't airplay the audio directly from the laptop. I suspect most projectors with airplay would be for receiving rather than sending stuff.

  • Im in the market for a small set of book shelf speakers as my floorstanding B&W's are simply too big for my new living room. Any recommendations <£1000.

  • I helped a friend audition speakers recently and the Dali range really stood out. Opticon 2 would possibly be a good option.

The Kef LS50 are apparently very good too.

  • Harbeth p3esr. Will need to keep your eyes peeled for 2nd hand. I tried a pair to see what the hype was about and they are outstanding.

  • Nice but £.

I seem to remember that the maker of Harbeth is of the beleif that all amps sounds the same. I'm a bit more moderate, would probably go as far as "good solid state amps sound similar to each other".

Anyhow, I'd want a decent amp driving a pair of Harbeth.

  • I use a pair of Harbeth M20 powered by a cheapy Marantz amp and mains cable for speaker cable. Sounds fantastic.

  • Some help friends and hive mind.

I've decided to expand my home audio. Right now I'd like to have my music playing in all rooms simultaneously.

So I'm looking to get an amp for the main bedroom. I've made a dumb purchase of 4 speakers. So with that in mind, I'm looking to power them. If I want discrete and small, 4 channels (perhaps I'd want to put AV in with 5.1 later) what do you suggest. Else something sexy with valves.

I keep finding horrible big black jobbies with buttons and knobs everywhere. That's fine for the lounge but I want something small and simple.

    I found this one

    Or
    Is this any good?

Would this work? How would the freq (crossover freq) be set?

*I'm a little out of touch with the terms so many apologies if I fuddled them up...
** if it sounds shit it's cause I've edited many times.

    Also 'cost efficient' please.

  • This is a serious request of help btw

  • Why do you want 5.1 in a bedroom?

    Unless p0rn...

However cheap multi room audio is Chromecast Audio, they regularly go for £15 at Currys or Argos.

  • Need more info -
why are you talking about crossovers, have you bought subwoofers or something?
What are the speakers you've bought?
Why have you got 4 and not 2 speakers for the bedroom? quadraphonic hasn't been a thing since the 70s.

My advice is same as always, stick with 2 channel, much better vfm and sound in most domestic environments.

So you've got options of either a 2 channel amp (which may have 4 speaker outputs) or an AV amp if you're set on 5.1 (which makes no sense for music, only movies)

  • The options for synchronising across multiple rooms are:

Chromecast audio (needs amplifying in each room)

    Sonos (expensive but easy)

Squeezebox (old hardware or hacks, can be tricky, not too supported)

One big amp with multi room capability and long cables.

  • I accidentally (re:drunk) bought 4 Bose jewel double cube speakers... The 5.1 isn't necessarily except that I didn't think why...

    2.1 sounds better.

Amp with XO only because the speakers are obviously freq sensitive and I'd like to possibly add a sub for a fuller more complete sound once I've recovered from my stupidity / loss.

    Chromecast power fussy speakers?

  • I would expect those speakers to have XOs in them. Are you sure they don't?

  • I don't send stuff back on eBay so what can I do? Do I just suck it up and put it to being an idiot?

  • Put em back on eBay and pick up a decent pair of bookshelf speakers.

  • ^^^^ this.
    Bose >>>>>>>>

  • Does anyone on here have skill with a soldering iron?

I've got a bike light with a huge amount of cable from the battery pack.

Would anyone on here be capable/ willing /know someone who could chop it down and resolder?

  • So for funsies, if I want to run the 4 Bose satellite speakers and a sub, what do you suggest for an amp? (plugged into an audiocast)

I'm struggling to find anything that's small for. Factor that isn't Bluetooth. As suggested I've looked for a 2.1

I'm looking for a knob for volume, low and high cutoffs. No screen, no fluff...

    Suggest please?

  • Just buy new speakers. You're going to need a sub with higher frequencies than normal plus an overly complicated amp which isn't likely to be small.
