Dude I might actually take this. Kate said she would be intered in a bike now that the weather is perking up and I'd quite like to make a hub geared bike for her, Not really too fussed about the wheels to be fair. She's 5ft3 or 4 (can't actually remember!) Do you think this would be ok?

Cool, well I tell you what. I got a load of bits to build up a geared raleigh wayfarer. I have made a load of mods to the one on ebay, but have a load of original style parts. It is really small and would suit a girl fine... Come and have a look at the parts I've got, and they are yours for hardly any money. Been getting on with gems bike, so got allsorts laying around.
Sparky... How's the Pannonia? Can I borrow your vice at some point?

Sweeet!
I'll pop over soon then chap, sorry for the fact you only put it up on ebay yesterday.
I ideally want to fit a rear wheel with internal hub gears, either 3 or 5 speed. Have the thing powdercoated, fit brooks saddle and some flat or moustache bars for a more upright riding position.
Fingers crossed it won't end up costing too much although I can imagine me getting carried away.

Pannonia is in the garage, a project for a rainy Sunday at some point. Still not sure what I'm going to try and do with it.

Haha cool. When do you want to pop over spencer?
-

Erm not sure yet mate, towards the end of the week I'd think. I'll drop you a text tonight once I get home and put my feet up (hopefully!)

Ha cool dude. I got some 3 speed sturmey wheels, some sit and prey bars and a few other bits. Can get hold of everything else relatively cheap.
-
• #137
Awh nice one,
Are the sturmy wheels 700c?
-
• #138
Nah it is all 26 1/36 or whatever it is (old size). Raleigh wayfarer frame and forks, cottered cranks, sit and prey bars. You would just need a chain, mud guards, bearings (all bb cleaned up and in tact + headset but no bearings), may even have saddle and post too.
Virtually a whole bike, just need a few bits.

Otherwise, I have a friend selling a raleigh superbe (as pictured in the vintage bike build section), but he wants £150 for it... A1 condition, rod pull brakes, oil bath chain guard, brooks saddle etc...
Proper vintage but probably a bit too much for that sort of thing...

Hi there!
I am currently building up a bike for my runaround at uni. I'm desperate to go fixed but I'm on a really tight budget!
Just wondering if any of you guys can fix me up with a cheap fixed rear wheel?
I want the bike to be as un-nickable as possible so the more banged up and old the better!
My budget is about £30-40.
I live in Dereham so could pick up from Norwich most evenings
...Or failing that any advice on where I might find such a wheel locally?
Thanks...sorry for being an uneducated newbie! :-) Jess -

i cant help, but there used to be this 'banrupt surplus' thing on ebay. my flatmate got one, they are cheap and if you put some grease in the bearings perfectly serviceable, my flatmate has run his on a five mile commute for a year

£40, sealed bearings, with sprocket - looks okboth have free postage
Just busy at the moment. Would've been nice to ease in, rather than be thrown in the deep end.
