  • I have to say, I've had GTA since the day after it came out, and didn't get around to posting in here. It really is such an incredible game. Everything about it, for me, is perfect. There is not yet a single thing I've found that I feel R* could've improved on. Cannot wait to get home and play it at the end of every day and I haven't felt like that about any game since San Andreas.

  • You on PS3?

  • For those that applied to get into the darks souls 2 beta, today is judgement day:

yeah I got my key this morning. Looking forward to the pain.

  • Just done some bounty hunting with a helicopter. 20k up so far. So satisfying.

More side mission I would says, even when I finish the games, I'm pretty much wandering about finding little thing to do.

I kept going back to Fallout as there's always a small side mission which are easier to find than in GTA5.

  • ^^i ended up with a bounty on my head, had a mountain top helicopter shoutout, fled to a railway tunnel, held them off for ten minutes, escaped on a train and died in a shoutout on the air strip. Best mp experience so far, and it wasn't even a mission.

  • Hmm. I need some help here, mainly because I know nothing about consoles.

So generally the £199 offer on PS3 + GTAV has finished, except at Dalston Argos. Hurrah. They have one left I've reserved for tomorrow, becuase having seen the weather forecast for the weekend this has suddenly become a bigger priority :)

I'm not sure how I connect it to stuff though. I've got a Dell Ultrasharp U2311H which has these ports:

    PS3 has these ports:

So I think a HDMI to DVI adapter would deal with the picture, but what about sound..?

I've actually got my PC using the DVI port so ideally I'd use the Displayport instead?

  • HDMI->DVI works great, but then you have no audio.
Displayport carries audio, HDMI does too. Seems you might go that route ?

Failing that, I actually use a pair of Tritton headphones with my PS3. Works great.

  • I just watched an unboxing on Youtube :(

I feel dirty now. But I learnt that the PS3 comes with a composite cable which plugs into the AV multi out so I think I could use that?

To be honest headphones would be a good idea though if I want to not get dumped :)

  • I've never really used the composite cables. I figure you'd get degredation of picture ?

  • I was thinking just use them for audio, would that not work?

  • With xbox I've got the composite going into my amp and the hdmi doing the pictures on the tellybox without audio, imagine you can do something similar on ps3.

  • Ah, yes, you can:

So my only remaining question is how do the wireless controllers work?

I really want the PS3 in the cellar with a long monitor wire going up through the floor to the living room and a long composite going upstairs to my amp, which is how I've got my PC Mac set up. But I've got a long USB wire going up there for my keyboard and mouse, does the PS3 need to see the controllers or are they Bluetooth or something?

  • Use HDMI for video and buy an rca phono to mini jack adapter for headphones - no need for gaming specific ones.

Headphones are awesome for fps's, means you can hear which direction people are coming from!

  • Makes sense. I really don't even know if I'll even buy any other games, I don't generally play games but I got GTA on the original PS when it first came out and I just know I'll love GTAV. I like driving games too so could be tempted by Gran Turismo or something later on.

It seems the PS3 controllers are bluetooth so my plan should work :)

Only reason for actual headphones is volume control ;)

I'll join you for some bounty hunting soon. Claimed 5k earlier then got greedy and died. Will be buying a property as soon as I can.

This game still blows my mind. Once they add heists and more on line missions it'll be even better.

Good point - mine have an inline volume/very small amp thing for that so forgot about it last night.

  • I'm on ps3 with the name Dadlocks, if I can get crewed up!

  • All this talk of current gen deals has me considering a new 360 to replace the ancient 20GB one. Best price I've seen for the 250GB is £160 at Currys/PC World, although that's delivery only which is a bit of a pain.

Main thing putting me off is the thought of having to renew the xbox live subscription which I only cancelled a couple of months ago.

  • You can get XBL for 25 quid-ish still.

  • ^^I did my XBL with a card thingummy bought from amazon. Year's membership was cheaper than any of the 'x months free' deals they have on the dashboard every now and again and I don't think it auto-renews (which I always turn off, anyway).

    ^that seems about right.

  • $500k give away just for being on GTA this month (as an apology for the issues it's had).

I'm glad because it means I can buy a nice safehouse quickly but kind of takes the struggle of working your way up away...

  • Pokemon X/Y is selling today!
Off to buy it after work.
