  • I really enjoyed mass effect 1, aint got round to 2 yet

  • do it. And be amazed at how your decisions in 1 change the game in 2.

Or more acurately, how much of the dialogue and game options would have been different if you'd killed A or saved B... etc.

It might just be an illusion, i only played through once, but I got the impression that if certain decisions hadn't been made then it would have been radically different.

  • I've been meaning to for a while, just ain't got round to it yet

  • This looks more and more awesome.

Played the beta a bit and tried the campaign briefly this morning, I have to say I'm liking it, fairly well balanced and the devs seem to be senisible when making changes.

  • Mass effect is awesome, looking forward to 3.

Thinking of playing vice city again tonight on the PC going to use my wired xbox controller, hopefully should be easy enough to set up, anyone have any experiences?

Best thing I found to do was:
    1) find the class you like the best ME1
    2) play being good + all side missions
    3) play being bad + all side missions
    4) load good save in ME2 and continue being good
    5) load bad save in ME2 and continue being bad - some horrible moral choices on the dlc
    6) talk to everyone. There are loads of unique dialogie options directly available as a result of the previous game
Wish I had done this to start with, would have saved me days ;-)

wired and wireless controller (using charging lead and battery pack) should be plug and play on xp and above

  • I've had this set up for around 2 years and haven't been banned yet. I always have the newest custom firmware on the drive, maybe that helps, or maybe they ban heavier usage users since i'm not on it very often. I don't really know.

It is mainly used to stop game save cheats as you can't do that on a stock machine. I know a few friends who lost everything due to being gamer score whores.

How about rooting the buttons though?

  • thanks folks

    more specific questions now.

do i just go for the biggest hard drive (320GB?)?

What's actually going to be stored there? Do I need it? I will most likely be buying discs rather than downloading whole games.

Some of the one's I've seen online state they have a 3D Bluray Player. Is this worth the extra in case I magically find myself with a 3D TV at some point in the future?

Sorry for the probably obvious questions but the last console I had was an original Xbox.

320GB seems a bit excessive unless you're going to be downloading a lot of films/games and storing your music collection on it. I have 160gb it's easily enough for me. I'd have a think about what you're likely to be storing on it, and see how much the extra space costs.

All ps3's support 3d bluerays since version 3.50 of the system software. So you don't need to pay any extra for a '3D Blueray player'.

A shamefully overlooked game for ps3 is flower (download from psn). Beautiful and relaxing.
Ps3 is a nightmare online as every game works differently. It is free, though.
360 has several ways to join friends and is very user friendly - tells you if your online friends are playing the same game as you. Does cost about £40per year if you pay full price. The same game seems, from experience, to have new dlc available on xbox before ps3.
Xbox games drop on price far quicker and lower than ps3.
Ps3 games often need installing - Metal Gear takes about 6gb.
Ps3 needs an update every weeks or so and takes far longer than xbox to complete.
Xbox controller is far more comfortable for shooter games as it has propper triggers. The add-on ps3 triggers are ok, but my hand cramps up after a few hours.
The xbox messaging pad feels nicer amd is powered by the controller. The ps3 pad needs to be charged seperately.
The wireless headset is better on ps3 - any bluetooth headset works. The xbox one cuts off when you stop talking to save battery which leads to the start of the next thing you say being lost.
You can put a 500gb+ harddrive in a ps3 for next to nothing, but xbox fuck you sideways for a 120gb one that is the same, but in a microsoft shell.
When you upgrade your machine, xbox charge you about £11 for the copying kit and you can only copy game saves once (so I've been told)
If you remove the ps3 harddrive, it instantly kills everything on it as you have to re-install the software.

Don't buy a Wii. They are for children and fat adults.
Hope that clears things up ;-)

Do you mean assigning the control layout? If so, most games have a menu option like console games for that. Check if the game supports a controller. If it does, you're laughing.

I use play tv to record tv. 1hour = 1gb = Bigger is better
I bought a 500gb sata 2 harddrive 2 years ago for about £50. I have used about 340gb so far. Lots of games now have huge install requirements.

hmm vice city, almost 10 years old. I don't think so.

May have to look for a driver/ button root program.

  • I had a 40gb fat ps3 that I filled rapidly, so stuck a 500gb hd in, then it YLODed, bought a 320gb slim and you can't go wrong with a large hdd.
    What's the alternative atm? 120 or 250?
120 is too small IMO, a couple of years of saves, installs and updates you will fill it.
Plus any games you buy, movies you buy/ pie-rat, etc.

  • ..The add-on ps3 triggers are ok, but my hand cramps up after a few hours..

I guess that's when you stop playing then, after a just a* few* hours.

Never had a problem with either controller but I'm only playing for about an hour at a time.

I have been known to play for days solidly, interrupted only by bathroom breaks. The last hitman was 27 hours ;-)
Only did this when my wife was away.

  • i remember playing the original resident evil through in 1 go with a mate many years back.
crate of beer, bag of weed and 8 hours later we nailed it!
(not an impressive time, but we hadnt finished it before so was exploring and learning as we went, still a shit time)

  • I once played a game for a week straight. Had about 6 hours sleep the whole time. I ended up sleeping for a whole day to make up for it. That was very soon after being unemployed for the first time since I was 16.

  • Ahh the giddy heights of pre/post work gaming. Thems were the days

  • ha ha

I've never topped Sumo's effort but when I was at college I used to play counterstrike till some silly hours.

Same with Diablo 2 come to think of it.

Xpadder should do what you want

I'd just go for the biggest you can buy.

It wasn't long ago that desktop computer with 40GB were more than enough, till we managed to fill it up with music, and they were low quality mp3s to boot.

My 360 came with 60GB thinking it was plentiful, but I managed to fill that up within a year and decided to get a bigger hard drive simply because I brought games online every now and then, which I didn't suspected I'd do in the future.

  • Hmm you have to pay for it!

  • not really a bad thing when there were some good deal every now and then, but I mainly use it for downloadable content, like Bioshock's Minera's Den, Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare, Fallout New Vegas' Lonesome Road... etc.

  • Oh sorry ed that was directed at the comment above yours!
