  • Will play LA-N after finished crysis 2 for a unique gaming experience. Edge likes it...

    and I like Edge

  • La noir is well good... it feels weird not being able to be a twat, whip out your piece and 'GTA' it up, but I guess that would completely go against the grain of the game.

...I am so shit however, at telling when people are liars.

  • The irony of developing a video game that requires subtle social skills.

  • And Deus Ex II was well shit. What a load of crap. It just got worse and worse.

  • I was proper buzzing about deus ex, but the more gameplay videos I see of it, the more worried I get.

  • Well got the Witcher 2 in the post today. Man it's buggy (at least the launcher is).

1- Disable spybot before running, otherwise activation won't work. It won't tell you anything though, it will just close the window after "checking" for updates. Which it actually hasn't been able to do, and you'll see no network traffic.

2- To run a full screen resolution higher than 1920, you need to set your desktop res to 1920, then the game res higher. This will then let it launch. Otherwise it will just think about it, and drop you back to the launcher. Again, no errors nothing to let you know what's wrong (or that something is wrong).

Other than that, it's very pretty! Now, back to Witcher 1 to actually finish it first.

  • Not really video, but I guess Nintendo DS is not that much of topic.

In NL it's forbidden now to sell R4 cards, so I've got to get one from abroad.
I've just ordered a new Nintendo DSi and I like to buy a new R4 card for my 7 and 8 yr old kids (honest, I don't play myself).

Suggestions for a good card and aplace where I can order that ?
Of course I googled, but there are so many diferent cards and suppliers.

Do you guys recommend a "gold" version and a 1.4.1 ?
    Please give me some hints.

    Cheers, DC

  • Anyone getting LA noire?
    im quite tempted.

    I have it on preorder.

Looking forward to it; the reviews have been great so far.

    Illegal here too, apparently.
I know nothing of such things but the Supercard appears still to be legal. Would one of those suit your purpose?

I'm generally not in favour of pirating games. These days it takes so much work to make a decent game that the people involved should be adequately rewarded. It's not like the old 8 bit days where chancers knocked out cheap rip-offs on a weekly basis.

(On the other hand, the software house that produced "Ninjabread Man" for the Wii should go bust immediately.)

  • blah blah blah..... rip people off... blah blah blah
    Cheers, DC

Pirating games is really unfair to the developers (even if half of the games for the DS are a bit suspect).

Although some of the main developer houses are finding ways to make a profit these days, the majority of studios really struggle. Given the advent of the iPod Touch and the iPhone, the mobile gaming market is seeing their profits squeezed even harder than 2 or 3 years ago.

If you're that desperate not to pay for something that a lot of people have put hard work into, why don't you make a couple of games yourself. The new Pokemon looks a piece of piss to program...

  • If money is really an issue, cancel the DSi order and buy an iPod Touch... the games are much cheaper and things like Lego Harry Potter are better on that platform than the DS anyway!

  • I partly agree.
If Nintendo and others would calculate fair prices, then I would buy them.

  • But the prices are reasonable. It costs serious money to make a game, and they are a business not a charity. Stealing is still stealing, no matter the justification.

I agree brand new games are expensive, so buy older ones instead. I'm running a year behind normally don't pay more than 10 quid for a game ( Witcher 2 being an exception).

  • I partly agree.
If Nintendo and others would calculate fair prices, then I would buy them.

If they calculated truly fair prices (ie the company making a proper profit for their work), the games would be more expensive!

Like Kirth says; buy the older games when the price drops.
There's no need to buy the latest game for the DS. It's not like it has a multiplayer online element.

  • Consols are sold at a loss for ~year or so, games are where they try and make up the margins.
Personally, I.rarely buy new releases due to cost. Some games I really want I would, but generally I wait until they are £25 or less.

  • I don't mind spending money on games because I never, NEVER pay for music. Balancing my karma.

Plus I only buy 2 games a year.

    I hope you're joking

  • Well, a tenner a month for Spotify Premium, but other than that no, buying music is totally 20th century.

  • ^ this.

  • Plus I only buy 2 games a year.

I'm getting more like this now. I was thinking that Battlefield BC2 has been out for over a year now and I've played it loads. I'll be buying BF3 this year and maybe LA Noir.

To be honest I've cut way back on my gaming as of late, other things seem to get more time, reading/studying/cycling.

  • ^you wouldn't download a car

  • Software "piracy" is copyright infringement, and not stealing, no matter what the rationale.

Sure but it's easier to just say stealing, rather than get into the whole legality and follow up with a 3 or 4 paragraph explanation.

Ultimately if people don't pay, then they can't pay their developers and so on. Given that games drop prices very fast, there's not much justification in copying games.

  • I think there is a valid point with using something like the R4. Say for example you have 2 DSs in a household, like the poster mentioned before. Having to buy 2 copies of every game is a little ridiculous.

Likewise having backups, and consolidating 10 games on to one flashcart makes sense to me. Less to carry around.

  • Why would you have to buy 2 copies of every game ? Only if you want to play both at the same time, hence yes you should buy 2 copies.

Now I believe the law is changing to allow backups for use on other media, but that might be limited to music ? (eg: copying CD to iPod, which is technically not allowed atm).

  • No, I said Ultimately if people don't pay, ie: everyone stops paying / the majority.

I never made any assumption that a copy is a lost sale. Please don't try guess what I'm assuming, rather ask what my assumptions are if I've not made it clear :)

Fundamentally, if you think it's fine to copy stuff you will. A shame given how cheap games are even after half a year. Indie developers are finding it hard to get their games published, because major studios are reluctant to take the risks given the "potential" lost sale v. real sales. Sure their figures are majorly inflated, but then again anyone who thinks it does 0 harm is also fooling themselves.

If you do not think the game is worth the price, then don't buy it. If you really want it, then pay for it. Hell, don't like this, write your own games. Indie games as well are very cheap and a lot of them are very good (Angry Birds is Indie developer and seems to eat a lot of peoples time!).

It will be interesting to see if the games companies decide to try a "spotify" type approach, where you subscribed to their whole catalogue. OnLive has a playpack for 10 bux a month, no idea if it's any good though.

Disclaimer: I do (when I can find the time) write for a gaming review website.
