I guess the whole point of the stuff they're talking about is that it make it easier/faster(?) to import models and whatnot? I dunno.
Impressive tech demo nonetheless - even if it is just Tomb Raider with an animated wingsuit lady.

There definitely seems to be some optimisations around the process of creating models at various levels of detail. I guess my point was more aimed at the impact of the general increase in graphical fidelity. While it may be easier to create various instances of models of varying levels of detail, the overall poly-count and effort on texturing is also ramping up significantly.
I'm sure there will be some instances of amazing games that look equally amazing (CDPR, Rockstar etc.), I'm just concerned that gameplay and innovation will suffer in most cases.
Maybe I'm just getting old!

And with botw, well I can see that being irritating also
Definitely, always looks like 'bothwell' to me.

It makes the process faster.
Having done some 3D modelling (strictly hobby based though) the usual process is:
- Model the thing you're doing up to the detail level you want it for your game
- start baking normals/lighting/bumpmaps/textures and optimize it for lower polycount
Actually being able to completely skip the second step is... huge.
Now you can completely choose the detail level of a 3d model and don't need to worry how your level of detail or polycount negatively affects the rendertime. - Model the thing you're doing up to the detail level you want it for your game

Really was great fun. The gameplay and atmosphere better than the story, but still excellent.

Utter shite
Bored trudging and can’t control at all
-
• #22386
Nah, I'm enjoying it, cruising round the countryside on Bojack is exactly what I need right now. Controls wise was more the slightly random buttons for picking stuff up etc. although that's settling in.

I have no idea how to aim gun, fire, move etc
Just baffled, bored and frustrated

I need some kind of morons guide to playing it.

Except now we'll probably have games that will be getting close to 1tb. Downloading such a huge game will take days.
150+gb games are already pretty bad.

Fallout 76 is free to play for a couple more days - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1151340/Fallout_76/
Have played 3, 4 and New Vegas but most people seem to be hating on Fallout 76 on Twitter. -

It's definitely not that intuitive but you do pick it up eventually. As snottyotter mentioned, it's just the weird buttons to pick random shit up and the occasional need to mash something random in a cut scene that's a pain in the arse.

And having to remember that when it apparently wants you to press a nonexistent button with a line on, it actually wants you to push the L stick in a direction, that cost some poor cunt his life.

I used to have it on PS4 so when I sold that I bought it on PC. It has stood the test of time really well, in fact I only got bored of playing it recently. By then I'd literally been everywhere and done everything. But I wouldn't uninstall it even now.
I actually bought GTA IV the other week having never played it and am playing my way through that. It's not as sophisticated but the storyline is great and although the missions start out very easy the difficulty seems to ramp up quite quickly based on the mission I just played. I don't know why I didn't think of buying it before.
The graphics are obviously not on a par with V but with everything maxed out I've actually been surprised at how good they are so far.
p.s. your relative on Strava thinks I'm a 5G Covid nutter 😂
p.p.s The irony of you playing GTA V when you actually live there got me like...

It really has stood the test of time. Kinda crazy to think it came out in 2013. I still play it now.
Never really got into the online thing and disappointed it took away the possibility of any single player DLC.
Pining for GTA 6 now but have to admit I’m a little worried about what it could be. Some big names have left rockstar recently and there was controversy about their working culture. I just hope that it was all written before Leslie Benzies left. Hopefully single player doesn’t get compromised for online.

I imagine a fair amount of people here will be picking up Watch Dogs Legion!
When I first moved to London I picked up The Getaway so I could get a better idea of the layout of central London.

Wow, The Getaway... I loved that, I used to just drive around town for the lolz... Game wasn't all that IIRC...

Do you guys also talk about gaming hardware on here or is there a specific thread I don't seem to be able to find?
Asking as I have a hw issue and wanted to post it in the right place for suggestions.
Cheers. -

There's the PC tech thread: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/206616/
(assuming it's a PC hardware issue)

It's free on Epic Games at the moment so just downloaded it.
Surprised by the quality of the graphics on my 8 year old PC with 4 year old graphics card, they look great. Just trying to decide whether to go with the easy option of joypad or actually learn the keys for keyboard/mouse.
Well this is a demo for the latest version of Unreal Engine, so expect top-tier PCs to make a big (though maybe not as big as consoles due to the diminishing returns already mentioned) jump in quality also
