Well, 'pedants' doesn't have to be a possessive here (it needn't be analogous to 'Speakers' Corner', although that is of course the most common pattern), but your assumption that he omitted the apostrophe where one pedant's possessive's apostrophe would have belonged, rather than where the correct apostrophe to denote several pedants should have been placed, is unsafe, anyway. :)

  • That is so weird, I was just about to post the exact same argument.

Thanks for saving me the bother Oliver!

  • I've ordered COD from Currys for £19.99 after adding another £50 of stuff to my basket that I might just have to return to store.

Ha, a bite! Does nobody read Private Eye? They have a pedants corner (deliberately unpunctuated to avoid further controversy), and had a very lengthy correspondence of people arguing over correct placement of the apostrophe. Can't remember who won.

EDIT -- I've got loads of great stories like this. shakes head at sorry state of life

  • Just got a 24 kill streak on Cod WoW.

That's tempting, I imagine the refund of the returned goods would be their worth minus the promotional deal though.

I've only just got to Level 70 on MW2 though, think I'm done with the series until they put out a campaign focused offering again.

Well, yes, which is why I thought I'd reply in this vein. :)

  • Black ops is brilliant, favourite of the series so far. The amount of things you can do is mind blowing and wager matches are great, I've never sworn so much at a computer game though.

  • Logged on to watch a DVD yesterday and 9 friends were on playing Black Ops.

  • Myself included!

Make sure you get black ops soon, we need to have some wager matches.

  • Haven't got it yet, but played it at a mates last night. It feels a lot different to MW2, you can't move as fast as you can before, and taking away stopping power is an interesting one, although I'm glad it doesn't take a milisecond to get shot like on MW2. The way they've shifted the perks around kind of annoyed me a bit as well, but this is something I'm sure you'd get used to over time. Didn't get a chance to try a wager match but that and the whole money system is interesting. Has anyone found the secret game bit yet? SPOILER At the main menu look down at your arms and press L2+R2, and you'll break free, walk over to the computer, type in DOA and press enter. I also heard something about shooting all the heads of the mannequins in nuketown made something happen.

  • Does anyone here play Starcraft II?

  • Is Black Ops really worth buying? I told myself I wouldn't buy another CoD as it takes too much time to stay good & it hasn't done too well on metacritic... But I'm starting to wobble & consider buying it!

Could one of you guys give me a quick insight into it compared to MW2 please?

Much better, honestly. All of the shit points about MW2 have been fixed, you can't rack up killstreaks upon killstreaks anymore. Wager matches will keep you busy for months, so much fun to bet all your money lose it then keep in the game and win it back slowly (hopefully!) The levels are really good, I didn't really enjoy MW2 levels all that much as they were to closed in.
The addition of money was a great idea you unlock new guns and don't have to buy them, I've really only kept to about 3 guns the rest of my money goes on attachments and wager matches.

  • I'm not bothered about multi player (nothing will every compare to Quake 1 CTF), so is it worth it for single player?

Erm not entirely sure to be honest, COD games are usually all about the MP, I've played a fair it of the story and whilst It's really good I wouldn't cough up £40-45 based on the story alone, wait for it to come down in price. If it ever does.

Why wouldn't you bother with Multi player if I can ask?

  • Just not bothered with multiplayer FPSers any more.

  • I looked at the recent ads for CoD, and it look pretty good, if you think it's not worth getting based on the story alone (I don't play muiltplayer as well), then I won't.

  • Thanks Spenceey - looks like I'm to buy it even though I know that I shouldn't! Better to get it now though so I can learn all the maps before the christmas n00bs come on!

  • They're meant to have fixed loads of the annoying things about MW2 like dolphin diving and quick scoping. So that along with the new modes and dedicated servers is a really good reason to buy it. Now I just need a bigger tv.

  • Dolphin diving??

  • had to google it

Dolphin diving is a tactic formerly used in Battlefield 2, which involved the player going prone while still in midair due to a jump. This was repeated over and over again so that the player could keep moving at a reasonable speed while still only showing their head to their opponent as they would when going prone normally. As a result of pressure from the community, the version 1.21 patch removed the ability to dolphin dive from the game.

  • anyone wanna flog me a PS3?

i honestly only want to play one game - FIFA 11 - so all i'll need is the unit itself, I have some old PS2 Dualshocks that function just fine. i've only ever really played footy games since around 2 or 3 years ago. i've thought about making the switch to xbox but then i'd have to re-buy the game, the wifi antenna, controllers, buy online membership ... it's all a bit long.

i'll put up a 'wanted' in the classifieds soon. thanks.

I too hardly do multi player nowdays (though have had some recent fun with halo fragfests). Team fortress and counter strike did it for me more than quake in the day however i must admit that modern multiplayer fragging is so varied and sophisticted that it's a completely different experience to the earlier incarnations.
