  • Hey all,

I have a lot of scars on my body, mainly due to being an adventurous kid. I also have ezcema which comes out periodically on my back and shoulders, which I can't help scratching, and it's left me with a lot of uneven patches and abrasions.

I know there are a few skincare products out there that claim to remedy this but i'm a bit skeptical as to whether they actually work or not. Anyone got any experience with them?

  • As if...

  • Cocoa Butter (the really thick and greasy version, in tubs) works on scars, but takes a long time. Scars must be completely healed first though, obviously. And since you get eczema, you may have to test any suggestions, instead of just trying them fully. I wouldn't want my suggestion to cause a flare up.

There are a few forumengers here that have eczema, so maybe they will tell you what has worked for them.

  • Bio Oil. Any product with adverts as badly dubbed as theirs deserves consideration...

  • I don't have personal experience of using it but I've heard repeatedly that emu oil does wonders at reducing scarring.

  • my mum's a homeopathic doctor, she says she has shit to reduce ezcema, i can find out what you need if you want

  • wow, that's the last thing I'd have thought could help eczema.. still, worth a try I suppose. can you use your own?

  • can you repeat the question please?

A dump, clearly, according to you mother...

  • sunshine, fresh air, and salty seawater.I remember when my boy was little-he had bad excema on back of legs (behind knees)when he went in the sea he bawled his eyes out for a minute or two with the stinging but at the end of a day on the beach excema was massively reduced. Not easy to do in Ol' Blighty in Autumn/Winter.

No, she didn't use that exact terminology.

  • yep, the sun definitely helped a lot over the summer. but there are still a lot of patches that look like bruises. i'll look in to bio-oil, emu oil, and cocoa butter. cheers guys.

  • Cocoa Butter also has a heavenlly smell, and makes interesting things happen. Win. Win.

  • surely some kind of list is in order?

  • That was actually funny! ;)

  • Cocoa Butter also has a heavenlly smell

unfortunately its taste isn't quite as spectacular.

i found this out 14 years ago on my first encounter with it

  • Emu oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and as GA2G says cocoa butter.

All of these help to reduce scarring but as previously stated it takes time.

  • Time heals all wounds.

    and scars.

  • Bio Oil.

    +1 fantastic stuff

  • If it's (cocoa butter) the Palmers stuff, I also like the smell, but prefer vanilla and chocolate as foodstuffs.

It is also packed with the usual fillers, and contains lanolin (can cause an adverse reaction in some), and [st]powdered piss[/st] urea, for its astringent qualities.

I've just got into unrefined shea butter. Early results (as skin calmer, chamois product, etc) are positive.

Ultimately, I'm siding with the people who think the stuff you put in your body has more effect than what you put on it.

  • Cyder vinegar ftw

  • what?

  • Emu oil

I used emu oil on my tattoo and it healed great, Im unsure about scars and old scar tissue though, Id try Bio Oil first. My gf used it on her surgery scar and it definitely made a visible difference.
