I think if you ask many of the bands you mentioned in the OP they'd say what they did met all the above criteria.

there is a video somewhere on youtube of Ladyhawke talking about her content for each song on her album.....
one of the song descriptions sounded like this:
"you know when you have a group of friends and then someone new joins the group and you're like....'whos that?'......thats what this song is about"
I reckon AL the bands listed in the OP are along the same lines....i listen to lyrics more than most people.......there is no more depth there!

Fuck me. This is getting too much like the inmates running the asylum and determining what is 'real' and what isn't. It reminds me of the punk scene in the States in the 80s when every knob had their own definition of what punk is. Henry Rollins grew his hair long and people said he wasn't punk. Hell, it got to the point where touring meant you 'sold out'.
The Dead Kennedy's song Nazi Punks Fuck Off wasn't about nazis but scenesters determining what punk was and wasn't.

I'm not determining what music is or isn't....it very much has its own boundaries and i wish to respect them....shame other people dont.

thats my point......because i care, i'm deemed pretentious or snobby....but surely thats the way it should be......caring i mean....not snobby.
If that is the case then people should only listen to music if they are going to 'study' it....however.....i think this isn't true...music should be for the everyman...but it should also be cared about...with that would come appreciation for someone worthy or appraisal...right?

You prooved my point with the unipac thing too....do you agree that with a more informed opinion you are more correct than someone who rates them?....yes, you agree that they can like them....but what if you were reminded everyday that unipacs were the way forward...they're cheaper, they get more press, more money thrown at them by manufacturers (therefore more money diverted away from good components) they look great, they make you look cool and thats waaaay better than having a good bike - good bikes are for snobby twats.....EVERYDAY, like that....you be sick.

I make music - and whilst watching T4 on the beach last year with my dad, i noticed some live miming by the Ting Tings, obviously fucking awful, i mentioned to my dad who'd reply was:
"but they're on TV though"!!!!!!!
