Was in Decathlon today and they have one of their MTB/hybrid frames set up as single speed with horizontal (not track) drop outs for £79.99 complete !!!
-
• #503
wow, that's fantastic! defintely a lots better than those Tesco 18 speed rubbish, obviously certain part may be a little weak, but nothing a good mechanic can sort out.
horizontal drop out are usually the norms for singlespeed than track end.

That has to be one of the ugliest bikes I've ever seen. Mind you, I don't read the Antiporn thread.

Or the Foffa thread, obviously.

No need, you only throw in the mallet, you don't chuck the bike away.

uglier than a faux fully suspended 18 gear thing that it would compete against (on price) ?
This bike would be a far better bet for people wishing to only spend £80 I would think and the only ugliness to worry about is on the potential riders mismatched tracksuit ensemble :-) -

I think it's perfect as a bike to lock up at a station. It's not trying to be something it's not: like a unipack or foffa, and the price reflects this. It's utilitarian to the point of ugliness, but who cares? it's for someone to ride a couple of miles on, not pose with.

Fixed ;)
Still bloody ugly though.

This bike would be a far better bet for people wishing to only spend £80 I would think and the only ugliness to worry about is on the potential riders mismatched tracksuit ensemble :-)My brother bought just himself a full-sus BSO for under 120 notes, off a catelogue. I said I would have bought something like this Nexus geared jobbie.......
.....I get the impression he thought I was mad for wanting to spend twice as much, for a cheap looking bike with no 'features'. Fat tyres, big red rear sus springs, disc brakes, flashy wite sus forks, all sell bikes it appears.
Bring on the cheapo singlespeeds, I say.

The B-Twin would probably look better with some mudguards filling up part of the huge clearances

But with bikes like that, there's always something about them being outside of any aesthetic categories--e.g., not even making an attempt at a diamond frame, which this one does, and, I think, fails tragically.
That said, I don't like it if people buy cheap shit landfill BSOs quite generally, be it MTB or fixie-bouncie.

**Fort R37.SX Track frame
**$749 (£465)
Wish they still did a 54/55cm one... My 56cm is just a tiny bit too big and I WOULD have another one, best frame I've ever ridden.

My 54cm Fort track frame will be for sale as soon as I can get the cranks off it.

Can we have a 2011 bikes thread or is it too early? I'm really liking the look of the Genesis Day One Cross alfine!

Not too early, as product launches for next season are already under way. First thing I thought when I saw that there was a new post in this thread was that it must be time for the 2011 thread.

Alfine 8 speeds (or is it the new 11spd?) with brake shifter? brilliant!

It's an interesting idea and makes a lot of sense for cyclocross. I wonder if the gear range works, although I guess you can get it spot on by speccing the right sized front chainring. At £999 it's going to be a hit on the Cycle2Work scheme.

Alfine range from top to bottom is about 3:1 isn't it? That's like running a 1x8 dérailleur system with an 11-32 cassette, pretty big jumps for cross racing but (Al)fine for leisure use.
thanks
