At that price, I'd still go for the old orange Koga, £579 here:

464 has 73.5 sta, 73.5 hta, and 43mm rake?
that's pretty slack right? for an out and out track frame. is this being marketed towards street use?

It's designed as an entry level track training/racing frame, but they list it under both the "Track" and "Urban" categories on the website. It actually has a bit less trail than the 496 sprint bike, so you won't have any trouble getting it round the corners :-)

do you know of a good, easy to understand, online resource for bicycle geometry?
I know a bit but have yet to fully get my head around trail...

On a bicycle, fit is important but steering geometry is all but irrelevant. People writing road tests for magazines talk about it with an air of spurious authority, but in point of fact nobody can tell the difference across quite a wide range in blind tests.
The [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_and_motorcycle_geometry]Wikipedia[/ame] article is a reasonable introduction, and most of the more advanced topics in steering of single track vehicles are really only relevant to motorcycles.
Its a funny celeste green.
