  • right, because you've played longer, what you say goes. come on.

That's not the point. Can't you read a sentence?

  • Matt/Mark: Who's responsible for challenging the ref's decision? The polo community at large? Forum members? Everyone present on court? Some supreme being?

It's down to Rik, who are you appealing to? I don't get it.

Fuck it, I'm boring myself now... polo.

  • Guys, Guys…

  • for what its worth, i never argued for the goal to count as didn't feel i could argue the ref and i wasn't FULLY aware of the actual rule on goal height. if the rest of malice, the goal refs had piped up that the ball was perhaps in the accepted height we wouldn't be here eh?

  • I totally agree in principle with Matt. There was a vote to use cone-height goals, regardless of cone and if there were to be a differing of opinion, that should have been discussed and agreed with prior to the match beginning.

I was at the other end of the court and when I saw it, fairly clearly, I immediately thought too high. Second thought was it's in the cones. I feel like that is the gut reaction of the majority of people present including the ref who strongly called it no-goal. This is why I side with the ref.

Jono, as the league is 'owned by the players' then it is the players who should be challenging and deciding things like this. I don't blame Matt at all.

  • hi can i speak

  • If the ref calls 'no goal', it's not a goal, end of.

It's a fundamental of team sport, or any sport, that the ref's decision is final even if it's totally wrong. If you are unable to accept this, then, I am afraid that you are pretty much ruling yourself out of organised sport, at least any sport that I know.

  • hi can i speak
    Please do.

  • I've been accepting questionable calls, and differing to the authority of the ref, since before most of you ever thought about bike polo.

    Not relevant, Matt.

    Here's Matt's argument, and I agree:

If this goal stands, we've set precedent for refs having the right to go against the written rules. A ref can say a shuffle is a goal, or a t-bone is legal, or it's first to 10, or time limits don't matter, or BAD are disqualified from playing Beards because they're jerks (hmmmm!).

What he is not saying is that anytime someone disagrees with a ref, they should be able to retroactively change the results. In cases of real debate (two or more players disagree) on something that happened, the ref steps in and his call is final. As far as I can tell, no one has disagreed about the height of the ball.

That being said, this is all pointless as we haven't heard from Rik.

It's also not that big of a deal.

  • I've been accepting questionable calls, and **deferring **to the authority of the ref, since before most of you ever thought about bike polo.

    Not relevant, Matt.

I meant to say "deferring." It is relevent because I make a habit of **not **arguing with refs. I am arguing in this case precisely because it is a special case.

  • been for the last hour reading this fucking thread, my fucking God

Matt, I can care less if the goal is counted or not, I was doing you guys a favor.

what I called yesterday, I stand by it, was a good call, I was having a goal high in a court where there are three differnt highs, I would have call the same for BL. I dont think I made a wrong call. however if it is so importm to you, I happyly change the result, if the 6 players that were yesterday in the court agree.

You have/had been the only one from Malice complain, yesterday and today. the rest of Malice didn't say anything yesterday and geted on with it.

And sorry, the reusult was 1-3 without the goal or 1-4 with the goal, dont invent another goal.

  • So consensus is needed from all players present yesterday.

  • yes for my part, if everybody is happy I call it change

  • Nice one, Rik.

  • And sorry, the reusult was 1-3 without the goal or 1-4 with the goal, dont invent another goal.

Don't accuse me of making up a goal that didn't happen. I thought the score was 1-4, without the contested goal. We can disagree about that, but don't accuse me of lying about it.

  • dont acuse me of robbing you a goal

  • I have the notes and home, there are there to be check for anyone who want to see them

  • dont acuse me of robbing you a goal

    I didn't accuse of robbing a goal.

I do say that you invoked a rule that does not exist, namely, that the black part of the cones does not count.

As to the other goal, i thought it was an honest mistake. But apparently no one else agrees so i must have been wrong.

  • Anyone want to take this outside?

    When are you going outside?

  • If this goal stands, we've set precedent for refs having the right to go against the written rules.

No, you have set a precedent for refs to get it wrong, not the same thing.

And if you overturn the refs decision, on whose authority are we doing it? A majority vote of the league players?

  • When are you going outside?

Any time, anywhere, man. I'd be happy to fight anyone right now.

  • Also, for the record, I said 1-4 last night, and checked with all present before tweeting it. That was the score of the first game, not counting the goal that Rik annulled. I clearly remember that the game would have been 1-5 if the goal counted.

Malice got robbed of 2 goals last night and all you fuckers love it. You're a nice, honest bunch. Really fucking proud.

    I didn't accuse of robbing a goal.

As to the other goal, i thought it was an honest mistake. But apparently no one else agrees so i must have been wrong.

    so what you saying??
    who rob you them????

  • I have to go, they are closing the school
do I need to go home to carry on with this or I can go to play some polo?

  • Rik: I did not mean to accuse you of doing anything wrong on purpose. I thought you tried to do the right thing but made an error. You are not currently on my list.
