Hi folks, if you're interested in sending a team for the Sheffield NS tourney, we've a looming deadline. We'll finalise who we can give housing to on Tuesday, so if you don't fancy camping and want to enter the Great Sheffield Floorspace Sweepstake, please make sure you let us know by the end of Monday.
Also, Horatio is looking into the scheduling side of things once he gets back from Barcelona - whilst we can accommodate latecomers, it would be useful to know if anyone else wants to enter ASAP.We can absolutely guarantee* fantastic weather, lots of polo, amazing prizes and the chance to purchase one of our blooming marvellous t-shirts!
Hope to see you there!
(*as long as the sun shines, our sponsor comes through for us and Matt gets the artwork to the printers in time).

Polo today at Preston Park courts, 1pm. Can we have yet another well-attended session!?

Yesterday players were a little thin on the ground. It did get me thinking about recruitment again. Shall we do a wee list and stick our ideas up, then we can decide which are the easiest to put into action.
- Chris' relationship with the parky needs to utilised
- We can post polo up here - http://whatson.brighton.co.uk/ - for free. Might be worth it
- Posters around town
- Flyering

What we thought of in Manchester but never got round to is polo business cards, if everyone has a couple in their wallets, their easier to take with you than flyers, can give them to someone if they aask about polo/look like they're bikey types

Another good idea there, I stopped to chat to a guy last night in Co-Op cos he had a nice old Kona (is there an owner's club??) - ended up taking his number to let him know about polo. A business card would have been the perfect thing for that situation.
If only I could get girls' numbers that easily... :(

Sorry for no-show yest but bike was in pieces due to cold setting for new rear wheel which I built up yesterday as well.
As for recruitment maybe we should advertise that we can aim certain sessions at beginners so therefore we dont have the issue where experienced players run rings around the noobs. We can coach rather than play in those sessions

This is a good idea. When we did a recruitment dirve and got a load of new playersfor a few weeks, but then there was loads of tension as some of us better players could only play ocne a week and didn't want to have to play a whole evening of beginner games. Some sort of seperation, at least at first, is essencial for cohesion i think

Tired of having rings run round you Rich? LAWL
You are right though, we all started at about the same time and so have "grown up" together. I volunteer myself to do some coaching, I reckon the other Acapolo-ists will be down too. Ju is a dab hand at pedagogy, patience of a saint etc. etc.
So, a third day in the weekly calendar or sacrifice a Wednesday/Sunday?
There's also a need for loan bikes and mallets...

I'm bringing a stock of old mallets to donate

Our [Brighton Polo] relationship with Garry the warden is strictly platonic, but he seems like a nice bloke and is bang into the polo. I'm sure if we get our heads together and approach him with some ideas he'll do what he can to help us out. He's the man that can if anybody can when it comes to sorting lights etc for the winter.
Post polo up anywhere on t'internet that'll have us. Free is good.
All agree on a logo/design etc so we can organise the posters/cards/stickers/t shirts etc. A mate of mine runs S.W.A.T., the flyering/poster peeps that you see everywhere around town. He might be able to help with printing etc.
We've also got the tumbler page that hasn't been touched since the tourney. That's a great free resource that we definitely aren't making the most of...

here's another pitfall I can try to help Brighton avoid that Manchester fell into. There was a big fallout over the logo and website etc., with people getting quite upset about it all. The most important thing is not the best amazing logo first time, but it is getting the exposure, designs can be improved upon after.

How about just organising a 'taster' session that we can all attend and help out at. As the warden suggested, we could put posters up around the courts/park to advertise it. If it's popular we could do another one in a month or so. We'd need the loaners and mallets first though.
There's also PrestFest at the end of August which would be a good opportunity to 'showcase' polo on the courts. Maybe organise a small invitational tournament? We'd need to contact the Friends of Preston Park about this.
Personally, I'm not keen on sacrificing 50% of my weekly polo to be honest.
