I was complaining about this lane in the Bad Cyclists thread the other day - when it was blocked by a lorry, cyclists were either riding on the pavement or going round the lorry on the far right of the roadway, effectively into oncoming traffic. Noone crossed to the left lane of the road.
Personally I quite like the lane, in that by the time I get there I've done the fast part of my commute and it's nice to have a slow 2 or 3 minutes before I get to the office. What really gets me is dickheads speeding down the lane overtaking everyone in that big queue when the road to the left is empty. If you want to go fast, go in the road!
tl;dr The cycle lane is for slow people

^^ Funnily enough when I rode in the flows were completely reversed, with an empty cycle lane and a full carriageway all the way back to Judd Street.

Still you'd think they'd walk their bike on the pavement if they're scared of being on the road, or don't think they're allowed rather than queue. The whole point of cycling is the ability to filter. I suppose Q-ing is the English way (yawn)
I really don't like this particular lane (probably more than I dislike Cable Street cycle lane) since it is not built for purpose, and annoys drivers if you sensibly don't use it (yawn). It's such a useful route too and to have the stress of Cabbies bleating and beeping riders on the road there is so unnecessary. (In fact, as many people on here have said, this is the problem with most separate lanes alongside roads)

"I suppose Q-ing is the English way (yawn)"
How come no fucker does it at the traffic lights then?
-

You should bunch in the whole ASL at lights not Q
yet many do Q, in a long line down the left of the trucks -
• #160
I didn't mention ASL.
I'm specifically referring to the knobbers who roll in front of me at lights.

I noticed that the cycle lane westbound on Tooley Street (a narrow band of eroded green paint that only a lunatic would use, being as it directs you into an uncomfortable spot between a taxi rank and the main lane) was closed yesterday by a contractor who had put out 'Cycle lane closed' and 'Cyclist dismount' (sic) signs.
I thought the instruction to dismount was a bit rich given the fact any cyclist could quote legitimately use the rest of the road at that point. Just underlines how many people completely misunderstand how these lanes work

they do, the endless queues of car nodders in and out of every urban centre in the UK,
this, is what will take the longest to change within the human habitual brain,
the problem is our brains are still the same size as chimpanzees,
theyre just full of shit, not bananas -

I spotted a cycle lane when I was riding from Rainham to my Dad's in Sheerness a few weeks ago. It starts at the roundabout before you get onto Sheppey via the old bridge. It was a very windy day and the traffic on the old road was quite busy due to people being scared of going over the new bridge when it is windy so I decided oo I'll go on this, hoping it would take me all the way over across the bridge, along the Sheppey way to the Queenborough Corner roundabout. Did it fuck. It stopped abruptly with bollards before I even got to the bridge.
There is not even a drop kerb to rejoin the road. It starts again after the bridge and then makes you cross the road to rejoin on a shared path on the right hand side of the road.
I'll just stick to the road as per usual next time.

We have our very first cycle lane which isn't on a pavement.

I look forward to not actually using it. It looks lethal.

Its really strange to see a photo of yourself appear on someone else's twitter. I guess @roseofwinter was just behind me in the queue.

I think I'm adopting a noble stance though.

Which is because people don't use the road because of being beeped. If drivers got used to cyclists using the road they'd beep less. Do it and get others to do it. You can change people's behavior as has happened in many places where cyclists ride centrally and drivers just accept this like Hackney

There are loads of cycle lanes where I'd prefer to use the road (where they're shit / where I'm going to be going over 15 mph etc) This doesn't really feel like one of them. If the path were wider then it'd be a solid bit of infrastructure. As it is, its not quite there.

So its too narrow so its shit by your comment that "it's not quite there" so:
-use the road, get beeped, put driver on ignore -

Is the road ahead blocked in that pic above or something? because screw cycling if I have to queue up! I'm upgrading to mobility scooter.

haha. Deleted my comment cos I didn't want to sound like a prick.
