  • I've seen some weird headlines about it now being legal to kill them? Am I making this up?

No you're not, you don't even need a license to do so, but hold on to your guns as it's not legal as of next year.

  • I find this sexist, according to this men don't have principles.

  • It's like fox hunting Mick. Same shit, know whadda mean?

  • Damn right.

Now that all the serious chat has finished, is permission granted to post random shit yet?

  • Sooo...

What is everyones "post-glossy-pics-of-girls-on-bikes-thread" thoughts and feelings?

A relief? Breath of fresh air, cleansing of puerile sexist shite?

Or were you sad to see it go?

I think it is shame it wasnt both started and maintained as a unisex thing. Not so much as wank fodder either, but perhaps people just looking good on bikes. Whether it be through style, fashion or just because they are really good looking :s

  • Oh, has it gone? Doesn't matter to me, as I was ignoring it, anyway. ;)

  • I completely agree, how that can go on/went on with no complaints (as far as I was aware) was a bit odd, seeing as I got pulled up for this as it was apparently sexist: http://www.lfgss.com/post1129698-19.html

Now, if someone can explain to me how that was sexist, fair enough i'll apologise for making something out of it, but I actually can't see how that can be deemed unsuitable due to sexism. Especially seeing as that glossy girls thread has been going on for so long.

  • Damn right.

Now that all the serious chat has finished, is permission granted to post random shit yet?

However I still find this funny.

  • I think that humour is the best way to target racism, sexism and xenophobia. It's also a good way to vent suppressed feelings as long, as you can take as much as you give.

  • I completely agree, how that can go on/went on with no complaints (as far as I was aware)

Did you not read it? There were repeated outbreaks of complaints every few months.

  • True but nothing serious enough to warrant it being taken down, considering a song about getting on a horse is considered sexist.

  • Move on...

  • Meh.

  • True but nothing serious enough to warrant it being taken down, considering the truly horrific and damning nature of my sexist post.

    slow head shake

  • Shut up, get on my horse.

  • I personally would rather it be left open and those posting the rot in there get pulled up time and again and done over (in the LFGSS fashion of piling in).

What broke the camels back was something that BDW pointed out, that if you compare the first few posts and thread intention to the last few pages, the difference is stark and very extreme. It represents not a single bad post, a mild diversion if you will... but instead a full-on dive into the gutter.

I do maintain a basic decency standard on the forum and allow that to be dictated by the reported posts received and the general consensus of the mass. But because I'm not really a believer in "the wisdom of the crowd" and because I do believe in Voltaire's "may not agree with you but defend your right to say it" I'm left feeling slightly contradicted... should I stand by and defend the erosion of the community standard because of a personal belief, or should I allow the forum standard to overule a personal belief... and in fact I've chosen the latter today, and maybe tomorrow I would've chosen the former like I have done in the past.

I generally reserve the right to be contradictory when weighing things up.

It went too far, it really did go a bit Daily Star there for a while... and I really hope that's not representative of the people here, but even if it is I'd like to maintain at least the illusion that it's not. So, thread closed.

  • pics or it didn't happen

  • Given how gratuitously offensive some other threads are, I always found the most surprising thing about the Glossy thread was the degree of restraint shown by posters, rarely descending into the kind of sub-Nuts T&A fest which you would expect on similar motorcycle and car related fora.

  • The stench of the sad thread has gone? Thank fuck.

  • sub-Nuts T&A fest

You mean this kind of thing?

  • and because I do believe in Voltaire's "may not agree with you but defend your right to say it"

    Not Voltaire:

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

    • Though these words are regularly attributed to Voltaire, they were first used by Evelyn Beatrice Hall, writing under the pseudonym of Stephen G Tallentyre in The Friends of Voltaire (1906), as a summation of Voltaire's beliefs on freedom of thought and expression.
    • Another possible source for the quote was proposed by Norbert Guterman, editor of "A Book of French Quotations," who noted a letter to M. le Riche (February 6, 1770) in which Voltaire is quoted as saying: "Monsieur l'abbé, I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write" ("Monsieur l'abbé, je déteste ce que vous écrivez, mais je donnerai ma vie pour que vous puissiez continuer à écrire"). This remark, however, does not appear in the letter.
  • Given how gratuitously offensive some other threads are,

    Any examples?

  • The stench of the sad thread has gone? Thank fuck.

Actually, someone gave me a bottle of The Stench Of The Sad by Calvin Klein for Xmas, it's rather nice.

  • You mean this kind of thing?

You're still jerking off over that? You should get out more.

  • Any examples?

Well there is always the opening gambit of the word cunt, a word that on the whole is unacceptable within most social groups.
