i've not been here that long but i have noticed a tendency towards juvenility in threads. a fair few of those are nominally sexist but I don't think it's meant seriously, at least that's my impression.
however, aside from that fact a lot of it just isn't funny - i appreciate humour as much as the next person, but this isn't - i think it adds to the general impression of this community as housing a bunch of 14 year old boys. and no offence, but if this forum has suffered from a bunch of women leaving, colour me unsurprised.
i have no doubt the we can defend ourselves from sexism, but being serious for a moment, it gets bloody hard and dispiriting when you're in a minority and it's the same few women feeling obliged to post over and over again pointing it out. or you leave it, as i have been tempted to do on other forums and no one else steps in. it gives newbies the impression that it's ok and maybe they don't realise it's meant in jest because you guys all have the advantage of knowing each other, personally in some cases, you know how each other's humour works and what's acceptable and what's not on a personal level.
i can skip over silly remarks about women's attributes, sexist jokes which aren't meant seriously and all that but there is a lot of it and it is noticeable.
and fwiw, the word cunt is fine, imo.
Actually, I thought it was a well thought out and good post.
Glad to see your such a grown up that you can listen to what people have to say and can make an intellegent comment back.
Cunt.

Now who's stereotyping :-P

How am I stereotyping you?
behaving like an ass to stir things up = troll

Ok, I'll explain.
Your point was in some ways reasonably put. However, I don't know "everyone" here ( I live far away from London village) and I have suffered at others idea of a joke. But that's the way it is here. Either learn to accept and take part in what is, sometimes, a harse environment or not.
No one can expect to walk into somewhere new and get it all straight away.
Your plea appears to be "be nice to me, I'm new" (hence the comment). If I have misinterpreted then I reconsider. But I won't call you rude names. -

I'm hardly new.
This has been hashed and re-hashed over and over again. If you see something wrong in a society, or something you consider wrong (semantics I know, but still important semantics), then it is your duty to at least call it out if not try and change it.I like what he said about the sexism situation on the forum, no one is saying "you're a woman, get off that bike and get back in the kitchen", but many comments are very blokey and can get really annoying for the (shrinking) female populus on the forum.
As far as calling you a cunt, I thought it would be funny as it has been a word that was discussed earlier as being a female taboo (which I think most of us female types don't mind, actually)

Interesting.
I hazard a guess that the vast majority of the forum are male (prepared to be corrected on that one), so a majority of the comments are "blokey". -
• #762
As for the C**t word, I think its probably more a male taboo then female.
Personally I find it extremly offensive (being an old git and all that). -
• #763
Well that's a shame, cuntard!
-
• #764
just because your male and your posting a comment doesn't mean your comment is "blokey"
Hippy, RPM, Balki, BMMF....all these "blokes" do a good job of making funny and intelligent posts (even Balki) that don't involve talking about birds they saw that day (unless they are making a blatent joke or trying to wind me up).
Hmm. Surprised to hear your "and old git", I had you down for about 18.

Really? I'm excited about getting older and being more capable and doing more interesting things.
But I'm still a hair away from 30, so not quite to old git status yet. -
